I really dont understand why anyone has the urge to say anything at all, win or lose, in my experience, all dialogue, for the most part has been negative, the “well playedz” the “gg when your lookin at a mate or significant material loss”, and many others. Also, the dudes who actually go out of their way to message u after a game, who gives a rats ass, after the game is done, i dont remember u anyway, so whats the point

Personally I talk with my opponents because I want to meet them.i believe chess is a very civilized game/sport (or should be).If i lost,I can thank you for showing me my mistakes and where my play style is lacking. If I won,I want to give u the chance to meet me better and maybe challenge me again and again.not out of arrogance, but for the shake of good sportsmanship. Also, sometimes when u talk with ur opponent u understand his goals through the game, thus u might develop a better strategy to beat him ;)

It really pisses me off when players say "Well played" after they crushed me in bullet.
