This whole thing is wether the opponent is sarcastic or not.  Like Antonio said it would be offending if you made a bad blunder then your opponent said well played.  When Caruana and Carlsen battle, and Let us pretend you are Carlsen, and you lose, and Caruana says well played, since Carlsen is a GM he makes good moves.  Caruana says we’ll played.  Would you be offended?

hey, acabo de tener un problema en una partida contra un tal TheButcherHouse yo registro el ultimo movimiento (caballo) casi al inicio de la partida y empieza a correr su cronometro el cual llega hasta cero , pero de pronto aparece que yo fui quien perdio y que fue mi tiempo el que se acabo , revisando el analisis muestra un ultimo tiro de el posterior a mi movimiento de caballo , ese tiro jamas pudo pasar pues el cronometro que corrio hasta cero fue el de el no el mio y yo no podia mover piezas pues era su turno

I admit i do say well played after every game no matter the time or whether i thought it was well played. If it was a bad game, i say it as a white lie. If it is a good game then i'm genuine. Either way, i say well played, because there is something called courtesy. It is the same as when you say good morning. Just because you don't feel good on a certain morning, doesn't mean someone shouldn't say it. Courtesy is a code we've been following for centuries. If you don't like it, don't do it. But don't attack people who do.
