Should Carlsen's title be revoked?

Im disappointed that he lost 2 games in a row. And one to a patzer who is barely over 2700... like I understand losing to Caruana who is almost 2800 but losing to a patzer like Radjabov who is almost 200 pts lower? Really?

Every world champion have their bad tournaments, even Capablanca lost a few tournaments: Carlsen actual won this current tournament and only lost two games. His style is very similar to Capablanca and probably would won the next match against Anand. His safe approach to his games he is able to win games most GMs can't, his biggest weakness is very tactical positions, he loses the thread of the position and his assessment  is faulty but his true strength he can avoid them and he is excellent defender.

Kasparov never lost 2 games in a row as a World Champion. Or did he? FabelhaftLaughing

Magnus just had a poor tournament this past tournament, he finished this tournament with a performance rating below his actual rating....

thereby his rating went down by a rather large -1.2 I think.

As a result, do you think he should have his World Championship title revoked because of this poor performance?

I'd like to hear your thoughts, we can not have a world champion that doesn't play good in actual tournaments or even underperforming; how are we to expect any better in future tournaments?

I agree.

Very very poor performance by Carlsen. Let us concentrate on his 2 losses in a row and forgeting his wins because they dont mean much in the history of chess.

Think deeply about it. What if he repeats Exactly Same peformance in a WC Match against Anand? IMHO, FIDE should fine, dethrone and humilate Magnus Carlsen.

I blocked Carlsen after that performance. You just can't trust world champions anymore.

It's an outrage really and it's a disgrace to be World Champion and not win every game.

It takes less than a minute out of his life to post the topic, lol.

Don't worry, he was just sandbagging so that his odds for the world championship are not less than 1.01:1

Are you serious? You're calling a GM a patzer? I'm pretty sure GMs are not patzers.... They put a lot of hard work and dedication to get to where they are, and besides, I just checked and you have also lost to people way below your rating... And Carlsen is a human, he's not unbeatable, even the top Engines lose games.... I can't believe something as dumb as this thread exists...

Ummm. I think you missed the point of the thread, Indirect.

Yeah, Ik, I got a little carried away...  lol(:

And besides, this thread has no point.

It's a stupid question. If you win the Super Bowl, you're champ until the next Super Bowl. If the Seahawks start the season 0-7 nobody  will ask them to retrn the Vince Lombardi trophy.

It's a stupid question because it's not a serious one.

It looks like the consensus here is that Carlsen should give back the title.

It's a real shame, but its necessary. Magnus is just....a scrub compared to the world's elite.

He can't even compare to Nakamura, Mamedyarov,  who he, luckily, beat twice at this tournament.

Avatar of Elubas

Yeah, if we take out all of Magnus's lucky games (which is every game he won, and every time he lost his opponent wasn't lucky), he's really more like a 2700 at best. Don't let his 2880 rating mislead you.

Actually, his performance in this tournament in the second half was amazing to me. He was sick in the first half and then pulled himself together and won his last game in the final round with a subtle idea of getting black to play a line that would be fine for white, but is poor for black with colors transposed because of the loss in tempo.
