Should we have 2 different ratings?

I'mma look at the practical side of this and say playing chess while drunk is probably a lot safer than other things to do while drunk(unless you're drinking, driving, AND playing chess - please, don't do that.)

  • #22

Slightly off topic, but I believe that the drink driving laws need an overhaul. It seems wrong to me that everyone has the same allowable concentration of alcohol in their blood, when alcohol affects us all differently.

Therefore, what should happen is that when you turn up for your driving test, there should be a bar at the test centre, where meet your instructor. Here you can choose to drink as much or as little as you want - your instructor notes how much you've had - and then you take your test. If you pass, then your drink-drive limit is set to however much you had in the bar beforehand.

Vlad i'm totally on board with your idea and i get exactly where you're coming from! Cheers!

Try burying a friend killed by a drunk driver, and see how amusing it is.

@diakonia, I never drink and drive. So if everyone was like me, no one would ever be burying anyone killed by a drink driver, ever. So it's not my fault, irrespective of what I might post on chess.com. So don't fckuing have a go at me mate. Not my fckuing fault.

I wasnt blaming you, and glad to see youre smart about your drinking.  Im just a bit sensitive towards people that think its funny to get drunk.

Yes, I agree! And we should also have a rating for when we are using an engine to assist us in our games.

I'm sorry to hear that, but this topic is not at all about drinking and driving. It's about playing chess and drinking.

There is a thing called ICCF, you may want to look at that.

In the drunk category, there could be a possibility to make illegal moves, and to call your opponent on them. If you are too consistently playing by the sober rules of chess (making only legal moves with no mouse slip, immediately calling your opponent on each and every illegal moves, and never calling him on legal moves), you would be detected as sober, and rightfully punished.

How about a summer/winter rating or fair/foul weather rating? I devote much more time to chess in the winter or foul weather. When it's nice out I have better things to do so I tend to rush my moves.

  • #38

Maybe Chess.com should add a Classical rating first...

Seriously though a unranked would be nice, It's annoying to have to go to lichess when I'm tilted/drunk/bad.
