Thanks great, DM
Sita's First Checkmate
Well done Sita, but 1.Qd8 was nearly mate - Black only had 2 moves, well 3, if you've taught her how pawns move as well as you've taught her how to checkmate with the Queen.
My 5 year-old daughter has been starting to learn chess now for a few months. Part of her learning has been to sometimes use practice positions at the board. One such scenario today involved her playing as White against me from the above starting position, the objective being to capture Black's pawn and checkmate him.
After immediately blundering her queen with 1.Qd8?? Kxd8, we eventually arrived at the position below, with Sita (as White) to move. Aside from a few verbal prompts as detailed in the text, Sita was able to checkmate her father OTB for the first time, without needing it blatantly pointed out to her.
Needless to say, I feel very proud of her!
Stop trolling the forums. We are least interested in what your daughter does. You can post in forum if your daughter becomes a GM.
The best chess player in the world- Judit Polgar. I have seen her games. She did not seem so formidable to me. A male GM rated around 2500 is stronger than her. I can bet on this! Females don't deserve to play chess.
Judit, a case of nature and nurture. For example, I bet you are a natural born jerk, but a blow to your head must have been a factor too.

Thanks, Rookie!
Too cute, Sita has a good teacher 🏫
Agreed!

Congrats. And also a nice learning technique. Really useful for elementary beginners to learn. Wish someone had taught me with that technique.
If she's that cluey after a few months, then next year you may have to sneak a few extra pieces onto your side of the board, just to even things up a bit.
I tried this technique with Rybka full strength. I reduced Rybka by 2 pieces and 2 pawns. It still beat me easily in a blitz. But, I think this is a great training method.I am going to continue using this technique.
yes, aside from playing normal chess games (usually with highly favourable clock odds for sita), all kinds of practice positions, endgames, pawns-only games with the objective of passing a pawn to promotion, etc have massively helped her understand basic chess concepts: piece movement, piece value, capture, attack, defence, check, mate, stalemates and other draws... it's so wonderful to watch!
