Has any other 'national champion' of any other nation won his own country's national championship -  for so many years, so convincingly as Fischer from the tender age of 14 for 8 of the next 10 years --- as he approached his prime and winning the world championship against an opponent whom he had never before beaten in any tournament game (1972) ?
