I'm thinking about buying one of these but I wonder how reliable it's going to be. They say they have used very good parts to build it but that didn't help me much. What do the inside of it look like? what can break & go wrong in it?  what would be the most likely part to clap out first? bullet.png

The game works great and I have had mine since April with a lot of use. The game works perfectly with only an occasional issue with the app/internet. Well worth the money.

 

my Time controls have been played at 30 minutes, but I seem to be playing quite a bit faster. I have not had any time pressure. If I am playing at home there is no real problem, I just plug it in. I played at Panera Bread today with friends and the battery drop does become an issue.

Do you have your phone display screen turn all the way down? I played three games last night and notice it fell significantly faster when the screen brightness was turned up. I did mention it though my friend. One solution i would advise is buying a power pack. They are small and can be taken anywhere. The one i have was like $10-15 bucks and will take my phone from 0-100% three times on one charge.

Yes my phone is all the up. A power pack does sound like a good idea too.

I downloaded the bta software. Played to games one game I got about 10 moves into the game and my board became none responsive in the second game I got into an end game before again my squres would not allow me to make any moves. I hate to lose rating points if these are indeed rated chess games. Anyone else having these problems I am beginning to think there is something wrong with mine

My only problem I have is the battery drop on my phone or tablet. I was losing power even though it was plugged in! The battery drop was no where near as fast as using the battery alone, but my batteries cannot keep up while playing SquareOff through chess.com

 

if you are playing your SquareOff through chess.com, you are playing rated games. Go to your chess.com profile and look under your recent games. Your games using only the SquareOff app are not rated.

I used my Ipad this weekend and only went down 7% during a long 30 minute game on chess.com. Also, when i play on my phone or ipad i have no problem holding a charge when it is plugged in.

 

Sometimes with the lithium batteries they have in these devices they wear down after time. On your iphone, go to your settings ---> Battery -----> Battery Health (Beta) and see what that says. My phone is new and it is at 94%. If it is below 70 or 80% apple will replace it for a reduced price.

This happened to me only once after using the auto reset feature, leaving the app, returning to the app, and starting a new game. I should of restarted it before hand but that was the only time i had the board do that.

I skyped with a person in India he thinks it is a software issue and showed me how to send him log files of the game which he passes to a programmer.  I mentioned losing over 100 rating points because I have had to resign games when the board froze . There should be an option to play rated or none rated games especially for those having issues. More people will play the beta software on chess.com if the bugs are getting worked out faster. I am not to incinded to play on chess.com with my squres locking up causing me to resign so I will be using the computer player and sending log files till it's resolved. Of course while we were Skyping the issue didn't happen as he observed my game. As soon as we ended the call I started a new game and the squares locked up on move 3 so I sent him the log files then called him to let him know

Try restarting your board  between games and force closing the app. Maybe this well help but idk. Chess.com rating points are irrelevant though in my opinion. It's not like otb rating points.

turns out by talking to other people with square off boards when they move their pieces pressing on the squares emits a tone and non leagal moves emit multiple tones. Tech support confirmed this. I have no tones for this although I have tones when my opponent moves and captures and ceckmate. I was always playing by myself at a remote location. I came home to get help video taping to sent tech support and come to find out my wife and son could hear the tones when I pressed the squares moving my pieces. so I am tone deaf to the particular tones square off uses. it explains why my board locks up because sometimes I without realizing I have not pressed the from square correctly then press the two square correctly I am creating an non legal move which locks my squares. So in fact my board works flawlessly and I have reported the tone problem to tech support oddly I hear everything else perfectly, first time I have ever experienced a hearing problem hopefully square off can change the tones. so if your experiencing this problem please contact support to report it.

That’s interesting. I hear the tones perfectly but the noise causes my dog to become a shivering mess. Hopefully they’ll add a few options.

Funny. Perhaps you should buy a dog to help you 😀. But seriously now: I know that from a certain age it is normal to lose the abilityto hear high tones. Kids use this fact and use high tones in the self phones at the school, so teachers will not know what is going on. At least you know now that your device is working well. Thanks for reporting this!
