Strange happenings in recent games …

Sort:
toxic_website

Recently trying to incorporate some of the excellent wisdom and pro tips shared by other players here, practicing in Guest mode.  Had a few bizarre games and wondered if it happened to anybody else.

Yesterday and the day prior, I played three matches against opponents that seemed even less skilled than I am.  Just lopsided matches I won easily.  At the end of each, they requested a rematch.  I agreed but wondered, “why would you want to play me again after that outcome?”

However, in the rematch it was like I was playing a serious master.  Same user ID but all of their moves were stone cold perfect this time.  My every move was countered, perfectly.  I was completely outclassed and I was destroyed pretty quick, like I was up against Hikaru or something.  Just blew my mind.

Has anyone else ever had this happen?  Just wondering what changed so quickly …

While I like to look at the positive side ... Were they playing with opposite side than first match? Maybe they are much better at Black then they are as White????

Could be.  I hadn’t thought of that and TBH, I wasn’t observant enough.  I should have made note of it, per your post.  Failure to notice things on my part, I confess.

Win or lose I rarely do rematches. I find I struggle that second game.

Wise words.  After this experience I decided likewise: no mare rematches.

It's why, as a rule, I don't give rematches. A lot of these people are the equivalent of trolls. They're 2000s, messing around. You're probably more likely to lose a rematch and if you won, you wouldn't get the points you should get, whereas if you lose, you lose more than you should, so don't do it.

I'm not saying rematches can't be fun for some people, I'm sure it is. But if I beat someone handily then it feels kinda cheap to try to benefit off of their inexperience. And if I get beat badly (which happens way too much 😂) then I'd rather just go on to the next opponent.  I like just playing the one time match. Adds to the excitement if you only have one shot to beat them, at least for me anyway...

And that's the other reason I refuse them, as a rule.

How did accuracies compare from first game to second, both theirs and yours?

We can all answer that. I'll start. Second game innaccuracies far fewer from opponents, as a rule, although occasionally there's no difference. From me, sometimes slightly more innaccuracies but all in all, it's just a tough game against someone wanting revenge. I'll do it sometimes but as a rule, I'm already gone anyway, by the time they ask for a rematch.

Also we don't learn much unless we look at a game we just played.

I wasn't asking about how many "inaccuracies".  I was curious as to the accuracy levels (e.g. 80%, etc).

It is possible that you played like your opponent in round 1, and your opponent played like you in round 1. Sometimes it feels like our moves are being countered, but sometimes it is also really obvious.

Imo the accuracy levels themselves are completely misleading and inaccurate; and I for one ignore them, unless I get 40% and assume something really was wrong with my play. So I don't know.

ok multiple 99,9 acc must be human then

Or it might just be completely normal.

Gotcha. but sometimes that can be off too.

I realize it's not exact, but the fact that "it can be off" doesn't suggest you shouldn't look to see if there's a clue there.

My ignorant noob status shows yet again - I didn’t look, but I should have.  It never occurred to me, I am embarrassed to tell you.
