Please remove the rating on tactics trainer. It's the main problem. When I start to lose, I give up because of the rating. Give us the option to hide it, or just remove it and leave it in the stats. When I hide with a piece of tape, I do so much better. But when I start to see all these minus 11's etc, I want to just take my phone and throw it against a brick wall.
I find there are days when I can't see the solution a lot more often than other times and my rating can float between a 50 or more point range. I try to use those days to see what tactics I am missing, but I find I'm just dumbed-down those days. But I think I'll eventually break free of my current plateau, as has happened before, so I spend 1/2 hour, at least on the Tactics Trainer here and tactics problems at chesstempo.com, which has nice little awards like this one I got today:
Yeah, that seems to be the same with me. On other tactics trainers, my numbers are much higher. Every time I break 1000, something happens and I get taken all the way down into the 700's. Some of that has to do with my attitude, so I don't know. It's just frustrating to see that rating number. I like the number, I just don't want to see it until I'm ready. I am very competitive, and hold myself to a high standard, and when I fail like this, I get very very angry and frustrated - enough to damage my property. Some will say, "take a break". But I don't want to take a break. I'm trying to get better at chess. I don't have a whole lot of time as it is, and so I spend a lot of my remaining time playing chess.
maybe implementing a focus mode like that have in live chess would help.
"Don't be ridiculous. If they removed the ratings, I would be fed the easy problems that you fail. With the ratings, I get problems appropriate for my skill level."I never lobbied for the removal of the ratings. I just want the option to HIDE it (like you can do with the timer), or view it on the stats as opposed to seeing it while taking the "test". So, YOU don't be ridiculous, and make an ASS out of U and ME, by assuming that you know what you're talking about.
"good luck op and get some spackle from home depot in case you put an ipad through the wall"Thanks. I might just go play the tactics trainer while I'm sitting at the house they're tearing down next door, and do the work for 'em, lol.
Maybe you should read your own post more carefully.
(Me) "Please remove the rating on tactics trainer." "Give us the option to hide it..." "...or just remove it and leave it in the stats." "I like the number, I just don't want to see it until I'm ready." "I just want the option to HIDE it (like you can do with the timer), or view it on the stats as opposed to seeing it while taking the "test"."These were all my statements in this post. These statements are in no way are lobbying for removal of the rating system itself.
I appreciate your clarification. Your point would have been clearer with a different lead sentence and perhaps fewer words. So, you want to hide the number circled in this image?I don't quite fathom how that's a problem, but I can support the option to hide it.
"I don't quite fathom how that's a problem, but I can support the option to hide it."Thanks. It becomes a problem when I lose a few at the minus-11-14 deductions. It discourages me. Is it psychological? Perhaps. With my temperament, I'd rather just check on the number from time to time. Or, who knows, once I get in to the 1100"s and up, maybe I won't care as much about losing from time to time.
Im also one of those types, that doesnt understand the importance of the tactics rating. I would assume the goal is to improve at tactics?
I would rather get 1 point on a tactic, undunderstand the pattern, and motif. Then get 10+ points for guessing quickly.
Chess is a game of patience. Tactics are no different when it comes to learning.
I have the opposite problem. I often get into a mood where I'll work tactics until I get back up to a given rating, even if that requires three hours. Another place where I work tactics, it does not show my rating, but only the rating for the problem I just failed. I have difficulty being motivated to use that site.
My rating just went into the 1100's. The number isn't bothering so much any more. Maybe it was the "sub-1000" aspect that I had a problem with. Hmm.
"Another place where I work tactics, it does not show my rating, but only the rating for the problem I just failed."Lichess?
Ok, so here's an update:After all of my crying and whining, my tactics rating shot up to the mid 1300's! But over the last few days, it has taken a major hit, all the way down into the 300's!!? I don't understand. This is why I hate the tactics trainer here. It seems like once you advance, they start giving you expert tactics and laugh as you fail and fall all the way back down. I HAVE been under tremendous stress (family-related) over those days, so I am guessing that's the reason?
Being in poor form or tired/stressed absolutely can have a negative impact on your rating. This is especially true if you get upset and try to regain your lost rating at those times.
When you are in that form, stopping and taking a break is a good idea.
I think that is probably it. During those days that my rating went up, I could see almost all of them. Now, I can hardly see them. I guess I'll just have to take a break until this passes over. Maybe I'll play less respected (by me) trainers until then.
If you don't know, a major change was made to tactics trainer scoring on about April 28. The scores are changing like crazy. For some people up and some down, depending on how you personally deal with the changes. https://www.chess.com/blog/News/chess-com-dev-update-april-28-2017?ncc=1#first_new_comment
