My youngest son was elected Prom King last night.
Tales of a Septuagenarian
Thank you. It was a surprise to me. He was not even going to the prom and does not have a girlfriend.
I did not know he was popular or so popular until a couple of days ago.
At the dance he was mixing some of his martial arts with his dancing.
He is small for his age but had 4 years of martial arts training and he and his next older brother have black belts.
My youngest son turned age 18 on May 2nd
Now he can get a tattoo or piercing, sky dive or bungee jump, join the Army, donate blood, buy smokes, rent an apartment or a house, drink in other countries [not in the USA], be on a jury, vote, buy a car, go to a strip club, be a stripper, and go to the casino with dad to play poker!?
My youngest son, Kevin, is now age 19 and has completed his first year at Morrison Institute of Technology. He was on the Deans List with all "A"s . He started his 2nd year in late August this year.
School/college in the USA is damn expensive.
I belong to Michigan Atheists, I joined about 5 years ago but have been an atheist since the 1960s. Our group published a small book with stories from our members, mostly describing their "conversion" to atheism. Most of them converted at a very young age, often before their teenage years. Reading your story, I think any responsible adult would have regarded the physical assault on you as much worse than your forthright admission that you were not Christian. The assault on you was a criminal act. Our atheist group sets up a booth at several summer street art fairs, alongside many other nonprofit organizations, even next to church booths. One year our booth was manned by our 72 year old female founder and a 81 year old male volunteer. They were physically attacked by some Christians trying to destroy our pamphlets. Actually, some of the church groups near our booth are friendly to us.
Back in 1958 and in Alaska--what happened was no big deal. It was no big deal to me at the time.
The act of one person has/had almost nothing to do with my skeptism.
There are a lot of atheists [and Christians] in Open Discussion here on Chess.Com. We are really not supposed to discuss religion on regular chess.com forums.
I am married to a Christian and half of my 4 children are Christian. My wife is self sacrificing and loving and the best person i ever met in my life. [much a better person than me]
There are good and bad Christians just as there are good and bad atheists.
