What is the "average rating" stat an average of? The US is higher in that category than Russia.
Note that I have not refreshed the data since I created this app. I have to admit that I'm not into R programming recently, so currently Im not in the position to do any update.
Average rating is average rating. In Russia the number of players is very large, so inevitably weaker players make it to the pool. In the US mostly professionals have a Fide rating ( this is all Fide ! ), so they tend to have higher rating.
United States has nearly the highest average player rating in the world? I didn't expect that.

Of course, if you averaged in USCF ratings, the U.S. would be lower. I remember someone writing into Chess Life or some magazine and talking about being in Moscow on vacation, learning of a chess tournament, and when the tournament started he saw his rating listed as higher than what he had submitted. When he tried to correct it the TD said, "We don't have ratings that low here."
