'Tie' refers to tie breaker points. To break the ties in a tournament in order to award trophies, some scheme is needed. Chess.com uses the Neustadtl Score. A high tie breaker value depends on how your opponents have done in the tourney. If they've done very well, then you are better off. You cannot 'fix' anything here. The only way to get a good result is to play your best.

I just finishied a live chess tourney (by the way very fun) and i won 4/5 games. When i check the standing, it shows me that my "tie" is low and thats whay i got 5th place instead of 2nd which is where i was before. Why does this happen and how should i fix it? do these tuorney's depend on the time it takes you to mate your opponent or what?
