Do you think is just too easy to join up the chess.com ?

artfizz

Way too easy. There is not even any requirement to prove you hold a chess title. Unbelievable!

kco

Yes that's unbelievable artfizz.

kco

artfizz do you think we should face with a questionaire before receiving a homepage ?

kohai

Asking what ?

I think we should face a survey BEFORE WE EVEN REACH THE QUESTIONNAIRE. (But that's just me.)

kco

well with the questionnaires this could help the newcomers to be familiar with the chess rule, posting rules , TOS, chess etiquettes, webite walk through etc.

kohai

They receive this in 'inbox message' format after joining

artfizz

Anyone can read the forums, look round the site and EVEN PLAY AGAINST THE COMPUTER without joining up.

artfizz

Are all new members sufficiently familiar with the rules of chess before thay play their first game here?

No - but it's fun to 'learn by doing'. We get a few accusations of cheating hurled about the first time someone encounters en passant, draw by repetition, castling, unrated games, etc. - but there's no harm in that.

Are all new members sufficiently familiar with the rules of posting before they contribute to their first forum topic?

No, but since the rules are based on commonsense, most people figure it out fairly quickly. The tiny proportion of people who join up specifically to spam, troll, flame and cuss are not ignorant of the posting rules - they are merely ignorant.

kco

I don't mean it to be hard either.

kco was probably wondering whether there was scope for preparing people in a better way for the chess.com experience - so that they can get more out of it.

Many members are likely still unaware - even after being on the site for months - of the broad range of facilities the site offers: videos, chess mentor, puzzles, articles, blogs, tactics trainer, groups, computer workout, the forums, tournaments, live chess, turn-based chess, etc.

kco is doing his bit to inform, to respond to questions and to provide fun activities (like the Hintless Puzzle and Word of the Day).

Perhaps once a month, someone could publicise one chess.com feature - to make it more accessible to a wider audience?

kco

kco

Perhaps it needs to be made harder to leave the site.

kco

Undecided

yeah you the ideas of what I am trying to say and both of them sound like Groundhog Day for the current members and staffs/mods.
