What do you mean you can't be a GM?

gdzen

I did some research and found out if you start learning chess after your 20s you dont have a chance to be GM..

I feel very disappointed. I was thinking i could do it by studying hard and regulary.. now it seems impossible..

I saw there is no one in history managed to do that before.. what should i do now.. quit chess? very disappointed....

Play for fun and try to get as good as you can.

if you quit chess just because you can't be a gm then that's kinda sad.

I always had a thought i could get a GM title one day, i play stupid games time to time but i keep studying and making progress. the idea was motivating me.. Always thought it was just a matter of time and study.. now it looks different.

winning or losing never was an issue for me, i always had the idea that i'm learning.. now i feel kinda lost.. i lost my purpose.. or should i feel the opposite? all is not lost and should i try to be the first?

There are people who earned the GM title in their 60s.

If you have time to do this, just do it.

I don't know how serious the reasearch or the goal of becoming a GM over is in reality.

The odds are probably not in your favor. That doesn't mean you cannot.

If you're considering quitting because you've read on the internet that you can't, you probably don't want it enough to begin with. You'll have much bigger obstacles to overcome than that.

Never lose your hope. Throw away your negativity. You can be a GM one day.work hard . You will deserve it.

@gdzen considering your current age and skill level it will be near impossible to become a GM. however i see no reason not to just continue playing and enjoying chess while improving. While GM is extremely unlikely, improvement is not whatsoever. Good luck

Even if it were impossible for someone to pick up chess in their thirties and become grandmaster, so what? There are other titles: National master, international master, fife master, expert, etc that you can pursue

I started play chess when I was 24 and now I am 31. I have the potential of becoming a Grandmaster. Just need to put my strategy into practices.

all you need is the guts to do what you intended instead of listening to the voices of history.

19 year olds and below who started chess became GMs “without” computer training back in the early 20th century.

that in itself puts your question in perspective.
