There is such a thing as natural talent. Board vision is essential.
What's your excuse not achieving 1000 rating?
I think I got 1000 in like my first 2 weeks of playing but it's because I'm really good at logic games. I'm slow with learning some other stuff
900 here. Most people have trouble reaching 1000 because chess is a long journey of learning. Yes, if someone really wants to reach 1000, they can play, and they will eventually get there. With enough time and commitment, you can reach it without studying. However, this requires time. While the amount of time someone takes to reach 1000 will vary from person to person, most people need time in order to reach 1000.
For example, me. I have been playing for around two years. I am at a stable 900 and have happily plateaued. There are also plenty more people who are below 1000. The average Blitz rating is statistically around 700, so anything above that is actually “above average.”
Tyler1 is the exception, not the rule. It is not fair to a significant portion of the chess community to judge the entire chess community’s improvement rate on one person.
Think about it this way. If I have 100 people in a room, and I pick one, and they say that they’re 1200 in chess, I cannot directly assume that all 99 other people in the room are also 1200 in chess. Even if I go to 2 or 3 and they all say they are as well, the amount of data I have cannot necessarily be used as basis for a conclusion for the entire room.
Would 1000 be great? Of course. But whether our ratings are 3 digits long or 4, we, at the end of the day, are all humans trying our best. It is not fair to use the success of one person as a baseline for the rest of the general chess population.
I mean how hard is it?
I mean what's your excuse seriously?
Because we're wasting good chess time coming here to help people who only wish to get attention ... like you.
ADDED: BTW, this smacks of the bashing of lower rated players and kinda nauseates me.
I mean how hard is it?
All you got to do just play! No need to study, read books, do openings, tactics etc .... Just playing simple as that .
Tyler1 (streamer) got to almost 2000 rating points with the same opening (worst opening EVER ! not a joke) by JUST PLAYING THE GAME ! Plus he's a father, has a job etc.....
I mean what's your excuse seriously?
Of course if we are talking about 2000 rating here I UNDERSTAND people have life! Other activities, time issues, and other factors, even 1800 hundred, 1400 WHATEVER !
BUT 1000 ? Come on !
You bring up a really fair point. It's definitely not that hard to reach 1000 on chess.com, and I'm saying from experience that it took me a matter of months. The problem isn't "natural talent," it's not "you got it or you don’t." It's simply the fact that people do not want to devote time to seriously playing chess, something I did. They may love chess, but they don't love the game enough to want to spend 1000s of hours of their life practicing.
Also I'm naturally competitive, so my story is pretty much the antonym of this whole post, because I wanted to beat everyone I found lol.
- Ok, that's when you should probably start learning some positional ideas or beginner to intermediate tactics.
- Time management, have a genuine think before moving.
Ragebait post just intended to make people feel bad. Mods would lock this if they were actually doing their job. Posts like this serve no useful purpose.
This post may not be the happiest thing to read if you're under 1000, but it is in no way "ragebait." The OP is actually very reasonable, he makes a genuine truth that it's possible to reach 1000 if you really try, but he also goes on to say he understands if not everyone reaches 2000.

Respectfully, I don't see it the same way. In my opinion, it is mockery. The focus wasn't on what they accomplished but rather why others can't (or don't) get there. I know people here with cancer who can't even get out of bed. Just getting through a single game takes every ounce of strength and there is little left for igniting the brain at times.
That does NOT mean there is something wrong with them. It does NOT mean that they are stupid. And it certainly does NOT mean that they are less of a person. This type of braggard mentality is hurtful to many who love chess just as much (probably much more) than he does.
Next, you gonna mock an old man walking down the street because his back is bent? Where has decency gone to take up new residence but I sure see it glaringly lacking in (from what I understand) ALL social media. This is my first experience and it's getting real close to being my last. Oh, I won't leave ChessDotCom but Forums may need to be in my past and not my presence.
If this were someone on the street, well, I don't know how that would be because I avoid that as well. But this type of stuff hurts people you don't even see - who read this stuff ... who want to come here but are ashamed, bullied, mocked and treated as stupid. I will NEVER remain quiet . never.
So it's best I leave. I may lurk. For goodness sakes, even Little House On The Prairie identified this type of behavior and Landon set 'short-round' clear that it isn't tolerated and kids should be raised with a bit more decency.

I reckon tactics and pattern recognition are huge factors in chess improvement. And learning a solid opening as white will open the door to progression. I disagree here.
This is a particularly weak ragebait if that’s what u were going for. I could give some tips to spice it up if u want. But if ur serious, 1000 actually takes the average person quite a bit of effort and review and it usually takes hundreds if not thousands of games. I think if u get there in 6 months you get an A. That’s not being obsessed just playing a few games a day. When I was trying to improve I looked at a bunch of profiles and got a feel for the average
I have heard ,from reliable sources, that some players reached 1000 elo about a month before they were born. Now those are the streamers I really want to listen to.
The actual and proper response to this thread should be:
OP: " I mean how hard is it?
Blah, blah, Blabbity, blah, blah..."
Everyone else: "Uh Huh. Ok. " (turns attention elsewhere)

I'd just like to say, I don't disagree with anything in this comment, your perspective highlights how deeply words can affect people whose struggles aren’t always visible. But I would like to say my points were more towards the everyday chess community that play chess for 1000s of games but lose hope because they don't improve.
But Thank you for speaking up and reminding us that compassion and decency matter just as much in online communities as they do in person. I hope you’ll stay, because voices like yours help make the space kinder and more thoughtful for everyone.
Also on a side note I love that you mentioned Little House on the Prairie. I love that show (However made up some of the episodes may be)!!!
