Dude, that's really NOT true, it all depends on the position!

Personally, I think kingside is better because it doesn't leave a weak, unprotected pawn.

Another reason why i see red when they o-o-o. They have to spend a move defending it or allow it to be captured. I like the mental side of when they move the king to defend it. The king running in the corner.

Well then no guideline in chess is true, since there are always exceptions. My point is that castling opposite, such as 0-0-0 after they castle 0-0 often can lead to most aggresive pawn pushes since the king in on the other side of the board. of course it depends on the position, and isnt always true, but saying that does not help answer his question at all. Positions do not appear in chess in an equal distibution, which is why guidelines are made. expecially for those begginer chess players they are very helpful. Once they get good enough to decerne in each position which is best then it is helpful to have some general rules to follow, and as exceptions come up then you can learn from them and better understand how to make the choice on a more strictly case to case basis

Well, his question isn't really answerable at all.  It's all a bit generalized and vague (as usual with these matters).

not with a clear answer, but giving a little direction does not hurt. I am merely speaking from my experience and how I decide upon which one to play

Avatar of bulletheadbilly

well from what i have seen, generally speaking, and master games included, if you are white, then Both Sides Can and are used, but playing black, Almost exclusively kingside......

The only time Queen side castle may work is in Bullet when your opponent is obviously planning a King side and spent almost all his/her resources into the effort. Tic, tic, tic. Castle Queen side and they wasted time.

Better is the one where they don't attack you. :)

Yeah i see that when i get the rare chance to chase the king out the queen side castle. It is rare because i rarely see Queen side castle.

Avatar of Sunofthemorninglight

done loads of it meself, like to let it hang out on e1 until i see where the other king cowers off to, then maybe go other side and it's all attack!! attack!! and boom!!!

Avatar of bulletheadbilly

with white Queenside Castling is fully acceptable. but black, rarely....

Hey these cowards do it in Bullet. Anything to avoid being mated and run the clock down.

Avatar of Nazgulsauron

I quite like long castling as white to create aggresive unbalanced games (such as in some sicilian mainlines), but it totally depends on the position.

Avatar of Sunofthemorninglight

you'll never be wrong if you castle long

unless you're black and come under attack

(what's smoking ?)

Bullet is a Fast Game, Made Fast for a Reason, Too win with only a pawn left while your Opponent has Alot of pieces, Takes Skill, and a Fast Browser, You Need to Even out your Fair chess Play with Faster moves...

Do you Expect your Opponent to Resign Just Because your Winning but losing on time ?....

What opening do you play? As black, I'd say almost always castle kingside unless your structure is destroyed (perhaps you can get away with 0-0-0 in a chigorin?). As white, you can castle 0-0-0 against the dragon especially. I like to play really open games, often with the veresov or the BDG. In those cases when the d-pawn is gone and you have an open file, or if the d-pawn is under pressure, I often find it better to 0-0-0. Also, when I'm against the French, I like to castle queenside and pawn storm. Those players never see it coming Smile.
