White to win in 4 moves?

Sort:

Hello there, I saw this chess puzzle in a local chess club. According to the paper it is white to move and mate in 4. But is that possible?? I havingdifficulty in getting it in 4 moves. The players in the chess club said that it seems to be impossible in 4 moves but possible in 3 moves?

Have guys have any solutions out there that will solve the puzzle in 4 moves for white?

Hmmm but what if instead of e takes the knight that will be on f5, will it still be 4 moves if the g pawn takes the knight?

1 Nf5 ef 2 Rxh7 Re1+ (presumably the move you're missing) 3 Rxe1 and mate next.

yep, that was the move i was missing.  one of those "proud i got it, who cares if i noticed the delay check" moments, though.

My point is if e taking the knight would be the best move for black?

MaddFunn

black to move??

Black to move doesnt have any mate in 4....

planeden

since it delays mate by one move, i think that yes it is.

if he doesn't take the knight then it is mate next move with Qh8 or Qg7.

It's white to move and win in 4 moves

Jon_MaL

what do you mean by splitting hairs?

Jon_MaL

I am just asking anyway. Besides it has to be the best move in it

The best move would be to resign IMO. Cool

Read the text beneath the puzzle, it says black to move. So you'd better edit the diagram if you want to avoid misunderstanding. Wink
