Why Are People Still Bothered By Losing to a Woman?

You should be willing to work harder because you lost. Who cares if that loss was to a woman or a man?

Exactly!

People are not bothered... - only men... wink.png

I went to graduate school in chemistry with women who had greater minds than me, have been students and employee-subordinates of excellent women teachers/bosses. I have no more problem losing to a woman than a man - unless of course it's to my female cousin who plays here, in which case I'd lose family bragging rights!

I dont know of anyone who is bothered by that. In fact, I would say its almost the opposite. I have found that some people PREFER to lose to a woman.

I am fully capable of losing to ANYONE - regardless of gender.

I don't think it is so common either. What is very common is simply being bothered by losing though.

think of being in a tournament hall with only one woman playing and you got matched with her, your knees are knocking and your face is red. now imagine being a woman in a tournament hall full of women but there is one bloke playing and you got matched against him! how embarrassing!

Pulpofeira

I dare to guess that last scenario would attract more than one bloke.

and there you have it Pulp, increasing female involvement in chess only racks up the male numbers.

Eoin-MacLove

try to keep it professional guys.

The reason is that some people are stupid, as always. wink.png I don't think it is very common though; I would imagine that, aside from ultra-sexist societies like in Iran or Saudi Arabia, the vast majority of people have accepted that gender doesn't affect one's ability to perform intellectually.

I don't mind losing to a woman. provided she slips me her number ;)

My wife is smarter than I and I don't feel bad. Sure, I kick her mental °ss at chess but she spends my cash wisely. She does buy ridiculous amounts of shampoo thou.

We have more bottles of shamp in the house than rolls of tail wipe tissue!
