Why Chess Is the Ultimate Mind Sport
I think that engine analysis is most useful when used to check analysis you performed before turning n the engine. Can you find the critical point where you lost a game without the engine? Can you find an improvement?
ultimate mind sport? not for me. I just enjoy playing it because it's like a big adventure, every game is different and it's important to have fun. Thanks to having long covid causing brain fog and fatigue I can't really calculate or concentrate much anyway. I just like experimenting with moves that are new to me. Winning or losing...It doesn't matter. The journey is more important.

I'm sorry that you've endure long covid. My dad has had this & it truly does leave lasting problems. You're just so right though, it's the journey that matters. Take care & happy chess. 🙂♟️
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to start a discussion about chess and why it continues to be one of the most fascinating games ever created.
Chess isn’t just about memorizing openings or pulling off flashy checkmates — it’s a battle of ideas. Every move tells a story. Are you playing aggressively? Positionally? Setting traps? Defending patiently? The beauty of chess is that there’s no single “right” style. You can win with tactical fireworks or quiet positional pressure.
One thing I love about chess is how it teaches real-life skills:
Critical thinking – You’re constantly evaluating options and consequences.
Patience – Rushing usually leads to mistakes.
Adaptability – Plans change. You must adjust.
Resilience – Even after a blunder, there may still be chances.
Also, with online platforms and engines available today, improvement is more accessible than ever. But that raises a question:
Do you think engine analysis helps players improve faster, or does it reduce creativity?
I’d love to hear:
Your favorite opening (and why!)
The most satisfying checkmate pattern in your opinion
Whether you prefer blitz, rapid, or classical
