Why does society hate chess?

GMA did have a "photos of the week" segment this week with a photo of Carlsen...it's posted online here:

not necessarily so, ifpg. wearing a mask in public is simple, right?

getting back to chess used in ads, some idiot attorneys pretended to play chess in a commercial while the narrator said, "we see things from every angle". it was right around this time that one of the attorneys moved the king two squares!!

Well that's exactly what I was saying. Chess is difficult. Who is going to know you can't move a king two squares? Other than castling of course. People like simple. Sure wearing a mask is simple. But now we have "supersimple". It's been announced that we are going to have 2 billion vaccine doses available in the US soon.  That seems like a lot. And that's going to vaccinate 300 people. Just to be clear, and to repeat, 300 people. Now, I'm not a math major, but that seems to be over 6 million vaccine shots per person. Ouch. But, like I said, people like simple.

Look at this young lad using an early version of Stockfish to defeat his father in a correspondence game. And what's worse is that his shameless cheating helped to sell fax machines to unsuspecting consumers who did not realise they were investing in a technology which would soon be obsolete.

Perhaps they need to look into the oranges of the Biden numbers...

You could have try to ask me to delete or edit my posts. What is it to think why you skipped it? I won't speculale on your reasons, but you should be aware it doesn't look good, and faults of others won't cover yours.

I wish you good luck with that sterile spammer you defended.

Didn't defend anyone.  I blocked someone, and the reasons why were obvious.  Later.

Yes, you did, and your reasons, while so "obvious", are not the reasons why you did not try to ask me to delete or edit my faulty posts.

The reasons:

- Post way beyond justification

- Post history elsewhere does not give hopeful vibes about future behavior

Move on.  This is someone else's thread.  Posting what you are posting here is actionable.

"vibes" are your reasons. Well noted. You're being just irrational and deny your true motivations for what you're doing.

And you don't get to tell me what to post outside your thread.

People can judge your post for themselves.  No vibes needed.  And following/harassing members, especially following a block, is not going to work out well for you.

hehe! on the part of chess being difficult and some not knowing how the king moves, i reluctantly agree!

on the issue of the vaccinations you mention, your information is wrong.

one company announced it was set to produce two billion vaccines. covering millions of people-not 300. where do you get this? really, post this info for us to digest.

Well my information could be wrong. Lets hope you are right. It's probably very, very wrong. The 2 billion vaccine doses soon to be available, which will cover 300 people. And I repeat, just to be clear, 300 people, was an announcement from the VERY top. This announcement follows a distinct pattern. Very wrong, very often. Either that or an incoherent mumbling mess. Probably both.

That was just somebody taking a dig at the president for a gaffe he made recently saying 300 when he meant 300K or something.  It's all over various news outlets and Facebook, so of course it's going to get regurgitated a lot by people prone to passing along talking points they've been hand fed.

It doesn't have a very big market share compared to Firefox, Safari, or Chrome.

Too plain, tbh, not entertaining and we can not do creativity in chess coz of turn based strategy game compared to real time and sport outside. Chess need to reform their match or mode, like adding some random/lottery or strategical banned theory in the tournament like some of game online right now happening (Dota,LoL,Rainbow Six: Siege). It will make the GM or the player always preparing for any attack instead of always using the same/favorite strats. Just in my opinion, in the end, chess is boring. Today also, chess is not participating anything in world conflict solidarity, entertainment or also society like community in FIFA,NBA, MUsic and also E-sport which is make the community is more lively.

All that has to happen to make chess wildly popular is to turn chess problem/opening research into cryptocurrency.

...Chess is something that takes a long time to learn like any sport but for some reason, it has always received negative preparations. People simply don't like it because many people nowadays want to get something done as fast as possible.

Chess is viewed by many to be the sport that nerds can play.

...

But after that, it died becoming the butt of the joke becoming a sport people made fun of. In the end, society will never be able to appreciate something as great as chess.

Well, the thing that some nerds like to compare chess to "any other sport" and then use a mixture of victim complex and von oben attitude to explain that people dislike or don't care about chess "because they're too stupid " is probably two of the reasons.

Doctors, engineers and PhDs take a lot of time and just as "nerdy", how many people laught at them? One of the real reasons is probably that it is harder to know what happens in chess most of the times, but I am sure that todays streaming with good visual aid for what the purpose is with moves as well as having a color comments on it would make it better. Just like poker became easier to understand when you could see all players cards as well as the probability.

"Yet society sees it as a nerdy loser pastime."

Well... that's because it's a nerdy, loser, pastime.

The defence rests its case.
