Why is my Daily rating so much higher than Blitz?

I explain myself : I don't play blitz well, as I am still a novice, and I don't have any reflex kind of move, patterns, and anyway, I prefer taking the time to think. Classic/ rapid would be the best appropriate. But my personal/work/kids/etc situation doesn't allow me to just dedicate a full 60 min on a game. So I play daily, taking 5, sometimes 10 min to play a move, when I can, during the day. I don't, and I don't want to use libray, and above all, in game analysis board. But they are open to my opponents, and at my level 1200-1300 in daily, I sometimes clearly see when a supposedly player at my level plays some really genius move, which reveals its true strenght after 6-7 ply. Ok, certainly some of them are really from other level, but still...When I finish my current dailies, I think I will just stop this kind of game and go 15 min type of games, but play way less than I would like.

It's not about the fact I don't like losing, on the contrary, actually I prefer losing a good interesting match than just win some boring game when the opponents makes blunders every move, but still, I don't see the difference with playing against a computer, if the oppenent just follow in game libraries and analysis boads. Just to say.

--> now here comes the " youre so stupid 900 rated retarded player" from Alexandros I assume

I was doing the same, no analysis board and no library, but I realized that I can use Daily to learn new openings,  so I am using analysis board and books and database. You know,  this is not the right thing to do to improve calculation, but through the analyses you can learn about chess,  just in another way.

1. I beat IM on daily games, below is the link. Also, I beat IM on OTB FIDE tournaments

2. I have a job where I work 10 hours a day, so I study chess very little + I learned chess when I was 21. Stiil I got a +2000 FIDE rating direct

3. Some of my blitz games are played when i'm drunk, that's why I allow simple forks sometimes (in the game you mentioned I drank wine and I thought I saw a discovery on the queen).

Here are the games I mentioned:

a) the win against an IM at daily chess:

https://www.chess.com/daily/game/178688998

b) an attack in London, where I sacrifice BOTH rooks for a mating attack:

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/game-showcase/the-boring-london-system

c) a nice win against an IM (he was my coach  )

https://www.chess.com/live/game/2420574903

d) A sicilian attack against a FM (Nastase Robert, FIDE 2312)

https://www.chess.com/live/game/2298043511

e) a nice tactical attack:

https://www.chess.com/live/game/2307654095

Please take a look, that's how I play when I concentrate. Enjoyed any of the games?

It took only 25 posts in this topic, where a beginner asks a question, to go from MegasAlexandros first belittleing the beginner to hi-jacking the thread to post his own best games. I'm not sure if I have ever seen more egoistic, self-centered person on any forum. I'm sorry that you feel so insecure.

Now waiting for his bootlicker PowerofHope to come defend his hero.

Come on, you are 1300... you obviously don't understand chess (or any other thing apparently). Please, go to your 1300 friends and have oppinions with them....

A 1300 having an oppinion.. FUNNY!!!!!!

What does my rating even have to do with my comment? It was not even related to chess.

Oh well, stay classy Megas.

You can play better than most of us will ever play. Still: no reason to be arrogant. Would you like to hear from anGM that you are a patzer? Most strong players I know I kind and aware that strength in chess is relative.

Daily has a much much weaker pool of players than blitz.

Look at my friend's list.. .i have 3 gm's and an IM. One of the GM's was my coach + the IM.

If they hadn't been arrogant with me I wouldn't have reached 2000+ FIDE in less than 2 years (remember, i learned chess when I was 21).

Sometimes arrogance has it's reason. The harsh way is the STRONGEST. Nowadays, with the "soft" way of not offending anyone, what do we get??? People who DON'T progress at all because nobody tells them the truth not to "offend" them. Not just in chess, in every aspect (look in IT for example, people are much less inteligent they were a decade ago... look at the graduation scores in college or universities, they are MUCH LOWER than 10 years ago).

SO... NO "soft" talk, only HARSH TRUTH will make you PROGRESS the real way. The MANLY way.

But you are talking about coaches,  people you are paying to help you.  In the forum there is no reason for rudeness.  ThenOP asked about the difference between the rating in blitz and Daily,  and you answered telling him how stupid he is and how smart you are.  Come on buddy!  I am teaching different sports since 30 years, and a lot of people perceive my behavior as a little bit harsh.  But I am not offending my students.  I am direct,  but not rude.

I am direct also: at a rating below 1700 you can't compare them. First he should get to at least 1700 (preferably 1800), then he can compare the ratings + playing styles (blitz vs long time). This is no offence.

I think they can compare, not matter the rating they have. I think the right answer has to do with the low number of blunders in Daily, and the small pool. And this applies not only to 1800 players, but also (even more) to players below 1700.

santiagomagno15

because no one takes daily serious, that is why you can see guys that are 1600 on blitz that have over 2000 on daily, is not hard to win because of that, I only take like 5 sec on daily for example, if you think for 5 minutes each move you can crush everyone

On chess24 (where I play more often) i have 2300. And here I had 2200 on another account (vlcosmin) max rating: 2235. SO it's not that hard.

But rating here means NOTHING. FIDE rating is all that matters.

p.s.: I gaved a lot of good advices also (positional puzzles, Aagaard's books, etc. )

p.p.s.: You are a 1700 user who has an oppinion. FUNNY happy.png)))))

First, you should probably learn to spell, particularly the word "opinion". Second, someone may not play online much (like me) or have bad internet.

Megalexandros, each time you post something is only to tell people how great you are and how stupid they are. you re useless. Get a life.

You are 922 ))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

Congrats, you made 2200 and now you think that you are superior to everybody else. Don't worry, I know I am only 1700, but that doesn't make my or anybody else's opinion any worse than yours. Go get a life with goals other than bragging about your skills in chess.

Oraoradeki

First off, Online ratings don't mean SHIT, the only thing that matters is FIDE rating and possibly your national rating.

This topic is interesting to me because I have a group of friends (and myself) that are within 1750-1900 Blitz range on chess.com. Some people are better at Blitz than others. I'm an all-rounder with no preference to time controls so all of my ratings lie around that range. My friends (1400~1500 OTB, 1800 Blitz here) who are better at blitz than their standard rating have an even match in Blitz games but would pretty much lose without a fight in Over the Board Standard games. Some people treat correspondence like Blitz as well.

Now to answer the question (excluding the cases of cheaters and random resignations) - IMO it's the  K-factor. When beating someone around your rating at correspondence, notice the gain of 13~15+ points, as opposed to Blitz where you only gain +8. This makes the rating gain easier in correspondence. Another reason is that people are allowed to look up openings, meaning sloppy play in the Opening stages of the game get punished (compared to blitz due to time pressure, and OTB where people may forget their preparation). The final reason is the most obvious, and is pointed out by many - You have more time to think, so the quality of your play should be better!

No. He's telling the truth. Look at his daily best win. 1951.

Okay, now look at the position where his opponent resigned. I posted it back in post #18. His opponent was winning. That's not a win I would be proud of.
