I was still for the last 5 minutes.....

I couldn't believe what was happening in front of our eyes....

Very unfortunate from Ding's part, but he played like a true champion in these last 14 games even though he was not in his best shape physically and mentally.

Hearty Congratulations to Gukesh and his team.....

Gukesh stood his stand till the very end

Also, a huge thanks to Vishy Anand for making all this possible....

Without him, India would not be where it is now in Chess.

Congratulations 🇮🇳

Congrats to Gukesh on winning. Though, it was unfortunate Ding blundered.

Congrats to Gukesh. Incredible feat to win the title at just the age of 18 and he must be having the time of his life. How can someone be so strong at only 18.

Now for a bit of reality. He is not the strongest player in the world, he is ranked fifth at 2776. The top four are all rated in the 2800s. Having said that, he could eventually become stronger than Carlsen has ever been. Many chess players peak at around the age of 29, so he has plenty of time to become the GOAT. How much stronger he will become is actually even more interesting to me than his defeating Ding in this WC match.

the two biggest shocks of this WC

1. first move advantage is not nearly as important as it used to be. I remember being surprised last WC when we saw two rossolimo sicilians, this time we saw two londons! Its clear now that the ability to create and play novelties is even more important than memorizing the most critical lines according to eval. The opening choices reflect that. I would have never seen coming 3 frenches including 1 exchange variation, and even a 3.b4 reti.

2. I remember Nepos terrible Petroff gave where strong players where saying it felt like it was a 2300 playing the black side. The mistakes we saw in this WC actually makes me feel pretty good about my play relatively speaking. The championship was decided by a mistake even someone of my level could calculate in under a minute. This is a far cry from the almost perfect chess we are used to from players like Carlsen.

True that. I remember back in the day people see engines second line being played and scream BLUNDERRR!!!.
