Worst at chess as an adult

Hey everyone! Fairly new here. I began playing chess around 3 years old, and by age 7 could beat my instructor. I struggled to find competition from almost anybody in my personal circle. At age 9, I played games for a ranking through some computer program (I know it's not official, and I'm not sure what bearing it has, probably none) and was rated to be 1700. I began studying chess at age 12, and joined my school's chess club my freshman year of high school and found no competition. After that I pretty much fell off from playing. I played the occasional game here and there but very few and far between. A couple years ago I downloaded this app but mainly play games where I'm distracted by other stuff or at work and rush and lose games. Playing as an adult now and trying to get back into playing actively, I find playing more difficult. I don't remember a lot of the openings and variations through different lines. I find myself making incredibly foolish blunders. As a child/teen everything seemed to come so easy to me.

I'm also very interested in joining local clubs / tournaments, but through google searching haven't really found anything. Any ideas on how to get more actively involved or find a club?

TL'DR: As a kid I was pretty amazing at chess. As an adult I suck and want to get better. Need help finding a local club or something happy.png

You stopped for many years?

I feel rusty if I don't play for a week tongue.png

Yeah, you're going to be a lot worse.

Google your state's name + the words "chess association" and you might find some local contacts.
