looking for some info in what phones support the app. I'm wanting to downgrade to a simpler phone (flip or anything with a standard 1-0#* button layout) and am wondering if the app would be available for any type of model like that.

Interesting question but I don't think you can play on a flipphone.
You don't need an expensive smartphone to play but you do need something that can use the internet.
Why not get a tablet to go along with your new flip phone? Tablets are pretty cheap and have bigger screens than phones.
