How does the auto-protect games work? (Diamond membership)

The auto time-out protection works by automatically activating vacation mode when you run low on time. However, that's a no-vacation tournament, so the auto time-out protection doesn't help you.
I played a daily chess game and dominated in it, but somehow I lost on time (I didn't in any other games) and I had mate in 1. I lost rating points when I should have won them. Also, it was part of a tournament, and because of that, someone else wont be able to move on.
