Lag, it's a problem

Try the new Chess.com and see if it's any better.

Lag is a very big issue and I have very high speed internet.  Nothing else on the web causes remotely close to the lag I get here.  What's most interesting is it's bad all game so I adjusted times to compensate but at the end of games is get much worse.  Every single game that comes down to the end it takes around 8 seconds or more to move.

Ads definitely use additional resources but I experience lag occasionally too, though might experience it more if I played more Live.

In other words... it's anything but Chess.com's fault, no? I'm not using a USB wifi adapter, I have a wired connection that I play PS4 and PC games on constantly with an excellent connection. I have no viruses on my computer as I always have an anti-virus program running, it's up to date and I have a hardware firewall running. I also run anti-malware programs on a regular basis. My notebook is plenty fast with an i5 3.0Ghz and 8GB memory. The fact is, this site is a memory hog and consumes far too much memory, likely a result of Chess.com's unholy alliance with ads.

Mind you, I realize this a free site with milllions of users and there has to be a trade off somewhere. But the constant lag on this particular site, it's worse than any other I have personally experienced. Excusing away the problem by listing a laundry list of "could be" problems is, well, to be honest, not very believeable. The problem, in my opinion, likely lies with Chess.com and their lack of server bandwidth. It seems their Java implemetation of their Chess Live application is severely inefficient and their lack of attention to the complaints made by others in the past seems to be passing the buck. That's just my opinion of course. Anyhoot, it's getting to the point that playing on this site is more of an annoyance than a pleasure. Being that it is free I suppose my options are pretty clear, go elsewhere. And it seems that that might just be what I'll have to do.

I have more lag since dropping Comcast and relying entirely on my cell phone’s hot spot for internet. I also have fewer problems with customer service, so there are benefits with the risks.

I might get dropped by this site once in 300 games because of the lag. Major hassle? Depends on the importance of the game when it happens.
