Mobile Chess on BB Curve

Sort:

Anyone else managed to get Mobile Chess working on a BB Curve. I'm in the UK (on T-Mobile), but I can't get it to work :-(

Installs OK, but then when I click login, it just hangs and won't do anything. Entering random user names to try and provoke an error doesn't make any differnce. All the permissions are allowed and other apps (like Google Maps) seem to work OK as does browsing the site with Opera mini.

Any suggestions?

Try to press a key 3 times in a row. This will define the left menu key. Now press another key 3 times. This will define the right menu key. After that try to press the key you defined as the left menu key to see if it now logs you in.

That's a cool tip! Unfortunately it didn't work - just gave me the same result as selecting it and clicking with the trackball/cursor - i.e. it just hung...

Interestingly, when I try to login, it tells me the app is trying to contact the internet and I give it permission. This is strange as all the permissions are set to allow in applications properties so I wouldn't think it shoudl prompt. I'm guessing this is where the problem lies...

i have it working on my blackberry pearl. it took me a few installations to do it - i was getting the same error. try to uninstall and then reinstall a few times until it works!

It works on my curve. There were no installation problems. it's just too ugly to use so I think i'll live without it.

erik

how is it ugly? i think it's cute! sure, it's small, but it's on a phone. what is ugly about it??

If the picture's I've seen are representative, I'm in with erik on this one: it looks cute! My phone is too simple though.. (Yes.. it's a really simple phone :P).

Is there a good reason to use the mobile app instead of Opera Mini?

Hmmm - tried un and then re-installing a whole chunk of times, but no joy, still just hangs at the login phase.

I'll keep trying and report back if I can get it to work - anyone managed to get this working on any T-Mobile UK Blackberry?

Opera lets me view the site, but the usability sucks - it's a nightmare to jiggle it to see the entire board on the screen at one time and it needs reload to select the piece you want to move.

Dedicated app should make this mnuch easier from the screen shots I've seen...

I finally managed to get this working. For those on a BB, there is an APN setting you need to change which is specific for your carrier. I'm not sure why all my other internet apps (like Google Maps and Opera) work OK, but Chess.com didn't, but c'est la vie.

Anyway, as soon as I entered the APN details, voila it started working OK. The link below is to a BB forum where they list the APN details for different carriers - I only had to add the APN details, not the gateway.

Good luck to anyone else with this problem - I'm off to make some moves from my mobile...

I am having similar problems with my BB. Can someone tell me where to enter the APN details? Thanks

Same here...

It says Installing and then suddenly fails. Is it a South-Africa thing? Cause I get that alot.

Please help

Flanne

The link in aault's post describes the details for the APN settings.

Nope its works for me In South Africa.

I have a Blackberry Bold 9000.

In options > Advanced Options > Advanced Options > TCP/IP

Then I just put a tick in "APN Settings Enabled"

This worked for me !

In an effort to tget this going i tried to disable the mobile connection and only use WiFi through my WiFi router/ADSL. I could browse the net and everything, but Chess.com still dot not work until i enable mobile connection. As if this app woul only use moble network ???

anyway THANK YOU AAUTT

This also worked for myself by ticking the enable icon, also put in the o2 apn, and it worked straight away.

Thank you.
