Trophies

I just received a trophy for being an "active contributor" for 1 year.  The fact is I've been an active contributor for 18 months, so the trophy, ironically, did me a disservice.  Last month I received a trophy for Most Active Contributor for September or some such thing. After perusing the trophy voting page -  - it was obvious to me, as it would be obvious to anyone, that the voting is somehow manipulated. Not wanting anyone to think that I manipulated any voting, I returned (actually deleted) the trophy.

The entire trophy situation should either be closely monitored or completely eliminated (in my opinion).

I agree. Especially the categories wherein it is easy to demonstrate, like "Best Article" should have a link to the articles being voted on. The person currently in the lead for this hasn't contributed anything to the site. Game of the month, also a link to the games in question.

The 1 year trophy you mention though has nothing to do with the voting system (I got one too)... it's likely now automated so when you've been a member on chess.com for a year it automatically sends. It's just that when they introduced it people like you and I were out of synch, having already passed our 1 year date.

Yeah, I had the same thing happen today and I joined in August of 2007. That explains it. Thanks!

Billium248

Thanks for the info!!  I can't wait!!  I'll be getting my one year next month!!

MsCloyescapade

I know I totally had the best article last month... then Rael came along, stole it and totally put his name all over it...

slous

My situation is worse.  I recieved a trophy for "Most Endgames Completely Screwed Up".  Should I be glad for the recognition, or annoyed?

To be honest guys it's all a bit of fun, if you get a trophy, accept it and sit tight...they are, after all, pixels...

TheMoonwalker

Trophies are fun! :)

Baseballfan

We ran a retroactive trophy for one year, and we were a bit late. There was absolutely no intent to discredit your first 6 moths here batgirl, sorry.

From what I've seen on this site, if anyone deserves a trophy, you do!  Thanks for all you do.

batgirl

I'm sorry. I wasn't so much complaining about getting trophy for a year when a year had been long passed, just explaining the irony of it and the fact that it happened in conjunction with other trophy-related irregularities.  While trophies are nothing but pixels and have no intrinsic value, they are  representative and do have meaning.  Who gets or doesn't get a trophy isn't as important as knowing they were awarded fairly and therefore with retention of that meaning.  That's all.

Evil_Homer

I got my one year too. COOL!

I also have a drunken blunder trophy or two, I certainly hope they are representative and have meaning Wink

I'd hate to think someone was cheating in our drunken chess games.

broze

Yeah, when I give someone a "Have a Taco" trophy.... I mean it!

batgirl

I'm referring to the Trophes from the (already cited)  trophy voting page

tanmay_chakrabarti

I have got also 1 year Anniv. Trophy

Rael

The trophies wherein the whole year is taken into account seem pretty tidy.

Best Blog of the Year - Batgirl
Game of the Year - Jay
Top Chess Historian of the Year - Batgirl
Top Tactitian of the Year - billwall
Endgame Expert of the Year - billwall
Best Group Manager of the Year - dalmatinac
Most Enthusiastic Beginner of the Year - pedro823
Best Chess.com Theme Designed of the Year - Sakura22
Chess.com Member of the Year - Lenny_Bongcloud

I don't really dispute any of these choices. In fact, I'm really happy that Sakura22 is recognized for her theme designs which were always top notch. Batgirl is spot on when she says that the trophies are better when we know that they are accorded appropriately.

It IS somewhat ridiculous that Will_Smith won
article of the month, active contributor of the month, mentor of the month and game of the month; especially when he hasn't written an article.

vimalfu also won author of the month for october and hasn't contributed anything.

And the two trophies that went to FAKERRusudanGoletani (Mentor of the Month and Game of the Month) are somewhat embarrassing in retrospect.
