i can't seem to hook up to live chess. I can't play. What could be the problem?

I'm just wondering- how exactly does this work? If I were a relayer, where would I get the moves to be relayed? From the official site? I know they have relays at FICS (really poor quality relays) but I've always wondered what exactly goes into it. FYI I am not looking to become a relayer (except maybe of games from my amateur tournaments :)- I'm just curious.

I would like some more info, however, I'd like to point out I will only be available until the end of summer because of school. During the other seasons, I'm usually available on weekends. On weekdays during the other seasons, I'm available 5:00 PM PST to 9:00PM PST.
