I had a similar thing happen just now. I had 6 minute while my oponent had 1 minute. Then suddenly 'connection interrupted' message came on the screen. It quickly dissapread and suddeny my oponent had 1:15. He made his move with under a minute remaining and when it was my turn connection interrupted again and he was back to 1:15! That carried on for a long while until eventually I had 3 mintes left to his 1:15.
Then connection was entirely lost and I couldn't log in to finish the game until few minutes later, but by that time I lost on time.
It was too damn convenient, especially since I have a fiberoptic connection in the house and get download speeds of 2.5 MBps, I don't ever lose connection easily.
I would like to hear someone explain what happened in your game? Did you have a green bar connection status? How about person you were playing? I use to get that message when I had a slow connection.
In the game I wrote about, connection never was lost. Each time my opponet moved, time was added to their clock. I lost the game on time.
Let us know if you find out anything what happened in your game.
Just now reading your comment. That really is a shame, you play a good game and leading by 6 to 1 in time, and then you lose in time because of some weird warping of the clock. Did he say anything in the chat window. Did you?
Now that I have a very fast connection, 5 mb downloading, up is 2 Mb's, I have not encountered this time problem. It really drives a person crazy when this happens.
Yes, your experience is what happened to me. I can not say it was a time bandit, but I think it was. In another game, this happened to me again, and the other player typed in LOL, LOL, LOL. Now, what do you think that was all about? Sounds like a time bandit to me. However, most of the explanations are something to do with time lag. I tell you, it makes you think about chess and internet and chess and computers. We are connected now, but look what has reared its ugly head! Cheaters of all kinds. The Bulgarian chess player Ivanov is being targeted as a cheater. The primary evidence is he is beating Grand Masters rated much higher than him and not just one or two GM's but a good number on GM's are losing to him. It is strong evidence, but not strong enough for a lot of people. They did find some wires under his shirt, but he left the tournament without admitting he had cheated. I just do not understand why the FIDE is taking so long on the new rules pretaining to preventing cheating.
Same thing has happened to me too. Opponent had 5 secs left and everytime he made a move it reset to 5 secs left. Very distracting to put it mildly and very frustrating to lose that way.
for some reason, I have not run into a time bandit. Must be only a rare few who have an application that allows them to keep adding 5 seconds to their clock. You have seen the selection 5+5. make a move 5 seconds gets added back to the clock. This is only a possible explanation and not something I can prove. I heard many others.
Really can drive someone nuts when this happens. You lose on time when you the other person is the one who lost on time! Just click on after you make a comment. Maybe make a report of the player?
