Difficulty Level: Magnus Carlsen

Brixed

You're Carlsen, playing white against Giri.

Can you find the win?

(The game itself can be found here: http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1826285)

1. Nxf5 Qf7 2. Ne7+  Qxe7 3. Qxd5++. I saw Nxf5 after a few seconds, but took me a few mins to see Ne7 + cos I was distracted by 2. Qxd5 Qxd5 3. Ne7+ in which white cant save minor pieces after 4..... Ra5.

Great eye for spotting Nxf5.

Ne7+ is a clever tactical follow-up. But the black queen doesn't have to take the knight (black can simply retreat the king to h8 after the check).

Keep looking. There's a stronger threat to be made. happy.png

Qd8 was way too difficult for me. After Qf8+ was fairly straightforward, but only got that far through trial and error.

The first few moves seemed natural, but the queen maneuver, abandoning the e5 bishop, was where I got lost.  Takes a while to see, at each step of this puzzle, just how much trouble black is really in.
