 I count 36

Good call. I had just woken up when I posted that. For some reason I thought moving the bishop to the 8th rank left the king safe. dur.

Mainline_Novelty

oh. i missed those too, so i counted 36 besides those so 38 =0

Azukikuru

I count 36. Remember that Bc6+ and Be6+ are not mates.

That was really fun.

I could count only 33.

robtaussig

I counted 27 (I think) and that doesn't even get to the queens..

I've always liked tis one, from tim Krabbe's site:

This is a legal position with promoted men.

White has 48 legal moves, 47 of which is mate in 1. The 48th move, Qe6+, forces Black to mate White in 1. This surely has to be the WORST move ever...

Amazing positions. I never imagined to say the least

boymaster

The LEGAL position:

47 mates!

7 pawn checkmates

4 knight checkmates

4 queen checkmates

25 bishop checkmates

7 rook checkmates = 47 checkmates! Count them all!
