It has to be Kg6, right?
So basically black'd be left with two options, if ..g1-Qg1+, then Bg5+ is discovered mate (Same rule is applicable to 'rook' or 'bishop' promotion).
If g1-Ng1, then Bf4 is mate.
Thanks for posting this puzzle, have a good day!
VERY challenging Mate (in 2?)... Try your best!!!
You are correct all the way! Nicely done!
I scratched my head over this and Kg6 was not even a choice I thought of! Super!
What totally blows me away is that I tried several bots and AIs also on this and NONE of them saw Kg6 as even an option! ![]()
It is a mate whether the pawn promotes OR if the black K goes Kh1 or Kg1 as well... The Bishop goes either to block check (Bg5) if pawn promoted (g1=Q+), or if K moves, Be3 Mates! NICE...
Excellent solving!
When there are limited pieces over the board, it kind of becomes easier to explore the options!
Thank you for posting this, sensei!
And you're also correct - if g1=N, then Bf4 mates!
Amazing. Very unique puzzle methinks. again, exceptional solving.

What do you mean by " bots and AIs"? Any chess engine solves this in 0.1 second.

yeahh unless he used chatgpt ![]()
Depends upon the engine I think - Chess Lv100 DOES NOT find that solution, looks for an alternate - I tried a couple of (non-Chess.com) bots and nada also.
Unless a way to TELL the bot to mate in 2 it just defaults to the more obvious move choices, Which are Mate in 3 or 4 moves.
But good solving, gang, and a nifty puzzle regardless, IMO. Easier for some, I guess, if doing them all the time.

Well here is an interesting and very challenging puzzle/mate-in-2:
I have tried this to NO avail, even my AIs playing me or each other can only do Mate-in-4 usually!
Worth a try! So far I have not solved this one! See if Mate-in-2 even possible! I am skeptical, unless the King HAPPENS to move a certain way. It does not appear to be a universal M-I-2; That is all the hinting I am giving.
Good hunting! WHITE to move BTW...
