not dreaming about chess.... but people can be moved in some dreams like they are pawns or knights... pretty weird but those dreams aren't the ones of every night... great god..!

I do get mind flashes of chess moves sometimes but I am fully awake when it happens. Lol

Yes I do have dreams about chess... one time I was sitting at the table with my family, and my mind thought I could capture my dad because he was at diagonal from me. kinda creepy. so I have been taking a break from chess this year.

LOL yes.... sounds like you might have been playing a bit too much chess. ;-)

Once, I invented a galme in my sleep called 'Quarterback Bridge.' All I can recall is that it had an offense and a defense. Never had any chess dreams, though.

Yeah man you probably don't want to capture your dad... or worse LOL

Yeah!

This year, I have started to play more chess, and I've had som chess dreams. They are often about interesting chess puzzles or about defeating some tough opponent. In my dreams the games feel quite epic.

I dream't that I read this post two years ago and didn't make an effort to add a comment then lol. ...so now my small contribution. I dream about the pyschology of playing chess. Why do players make a losing move online. Were they called for dinner or in the middle of an argument or maybe drunk when they resumed playing.....who knows. I am probably guilty of all the above.

I was curious about it because over the last few years I have solved some work problems in my sleep related to the computer and was amazed that I happened to dream the answer... And was curious whether anyone did it with chess puzzles. I only do it if I'm totally wrapped up in the thought process and working on it for several days. It has only happened a few times. But never for chess as I'm fairly new to chess.

Hmm...remind me to go to sleep during my next chess game.

Hahahahaha! I will be sure to do that if I ever get paired up with you, LOL!

To me chess is like math.

Except I still consider myself a beginner at chess. I do not know all the moves and intricacies. Thus I am limited to the level of thought involved to see the depth of the whole board. I was only wondering if those who can see deeper into the board, ever have dreams about chess moves, and solve chess problems in their sleep.

They say some players see maths and music in chess in their dreams. Deep inside the chess board I see the pyschology of human nature. Bobby Fischer saw in chess a means of using pyschology to extract brilliance out of himself rather than only rely on his technical skills. Even flawed brilliance like Tal mastered the art of pyschology to assert his presence on the board. In online chess you have the disadvantage of not being able to read your opponents mannerisms as easily or engage in eye contact. So maybe  mathematical skills have a greater impact here and dreams can help solve complex chess positions.Smile

Thing is, I don't remeber my dreams. I just try and confuse the opponent by using chat. For example: My bishop is under attack and if he takes it, there is a checkmate coming for him next move. I go to chat and say "Oh, shoot. I should have moved my bishop." or "Oh man, that was definitely a blunder." and in most cases they believe me and take the bishop (or whatever piece I chose to secrifice) and then they get checkmated next move. I believe this strategy to be a part of chess. If you can convince your opponent to make a mistake, then he deserves it. If he will take a closer look and see the situation for himself, he will probably find his mistake, and make haste to improve his position. This is a strategy of war, therefore this is a strategy of chess. I use this tactic in my chess classes, chess tournaments (online and offline), and just games I play for fun with friends and with people over the internet. Trust me, this tactic works on most people (that are of beginner level). I try to be tricky in my games. I use chat to trick the opponent. Chat isn't just there for ''Good game" and "Nice move". It is there for you to use it to your full advantage. If life gives you lemons, make lemonade. I hope this helps you in your future games.
