Earth is flat. Prove me wrong.

This is beginning to remind me of the quantum problem of measuring a coastline. The closer and more accurately you try to measure it the more it spirals out if all control.

Just because something is curved doesn't mean it isn't flat.

The shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

The problem with that is not that space is curved its that "shortest" is not appropriate.

For a photon to travel in a straight line takes more energy or " fuel" to deviate from the gravitationally prescribed simplest route which is curved around gravity generating masses.

So "shortest" really is "most economica" or "easiest".
Avatar of cavetiger
As far as the photon is concerned it is travelling in a straight line and eventually coming back to where it was.

Which is why you will often find a lot of photons down the pub drowning their sorrows and asking each other what the point of it all is.

So we wander about on a flat earth thinking its a straight line and eventually end up in Australia where all our money promptly falls out of our pockets.

Gravity. That Newton wants locking up he does. Ruddy pest.

Without gravity the entire universe would be entirely and perfectly flat.

How long is the coastline?

Answer: infinitely long

Nice pic Demon.

Further proof the earth is a round, flat disc.

Anybody can use photo shop and doctor a pic of the earth. Far from proof the earth isn't flat. No one denies mountains and valleys are not part of the terrain. Flat is a term used since the beginning of time. A more modern term imo would be to say the earth is a "Disc".

Another excellent attempt by the Rounder Android. Almost looks believable. But looks are often deceiving.

Its not philosophy its physics.

What if this is a virtual glasses. There is fundamental question in philosophy : " What is the objects actually in absence of mind ? "

Avatar of cavetiger
Physics is not a subset of, nor is it subservient to, philosophy.

Aristotle wrote, inter alia, two books. One called "Physics" and one called "Metaphysics", after he wrote " Physics". "Metaphysics" is one of the most important books about philosophy ever written.

Metaphysics means, roughly, "beyond physics" and deals with reason, not matter.

No, it is an optic ilusion. You see the borderlines shaped, as if you were in a balloon over one coin.

No, it does not refute the Flat Earth Theory.

This effect can happen even if Earth is flat. See the picture:
