Oh, I don't follow pro football.

Hmm, I dunno how to explain it well, I can give it a shot.
You get 4 tries to move the ball 10 yards. If you succeed you get another 4 tries. Move it all the way to the end and you get 7 points. Get close and you get 3 points (basically). If you fail or if you get points then it's the other team's turn.
You move the ball by 1 guy throwing it to another (only once)
Or by a guy holding onto the ball and running.
If you fall over (or tackled) while holding the ball the play is over, and your team advances to that point on the field.
(I know this contains errors and omissions, but it gets the basic idea across).
