IOC strips Russia of 2008 4x100 women's relay gold medal

The IOC has stripped Russia of a Gold Medal won in 2008 by its women’s 4×100 relay team after the samples of one team member, Yuliya Chermoshanskaya, tested positive for illegal drugs. Chermoshanskaya tested positive for two prohibited substances, stanozolol and dehydrochlormethyltestosterone.

In the wake of widespread Russian doping uncovered in 2015 and 2016, the IOC undertooka re-test of a range of samples from the 2008, 2010, and 2012 Olympic Games, using testing techniques not available at the time of those competitions. The resulting sweep found 14 Russian athletes, including nine medalists, had committed doping violations, including Chermoshanskaya. The IOC has the authority to retain samples at its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, up to 10 years.

For the uninitiated, the tw drugs detected in the system of the cheating atthlete are andrgenic anabolic steroids.

"Stanozolol" is the generic name fr the brand name drug, "Winstrol" and "Winstrol Depot" (injectable).  It "improves muscle growth and bone density" and has been a favorite performance enhancing drug for many years, especialy among professional athletes and weight lifters.

Barry Bonds, the infamous baseball player, took Winstrol as part of his cheating regime.

Ben Johnson, the Jamaican-born Canadian sprinter was stripped of his gold medal during the 1988 Olympics, as well as his 100 meter world record. Johnson's excuse was that his doping was intended to keep him on an equally footing with all the other dopers.  Johnson was jaundiced at the Olympic games because of steroid-induced liver damage.

Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, on the other hand, is an androgenic anabolic steroid developed in East Germany, and was long part of their state-sponsored doping program.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the details of Stasi State Plan 14.25 (East German doping program) became public.  The doping program had been in force since at least 1968.

"All victories by East German athletes are tainted due to the widespread use of drugs and many former doctors and former athletes struggling with the side effects are bringing sports directors to court".

You forgot to mention копье Armonowski , the Russian Cyclist who was always winning the Tour DE France...they striped him of his winnings and endorsement s too.

Well, cycling is one of the most corrupt sports when it comes to illegal p.e.d. use.

But looking back at the saved samples has been eye-opening.  The old Soviet Bloc of countries were all inveterate drug cheats.

They learned it from watching American Wrestling. Hulk Hogan showed them how to do it. BUT Chris Benoit showed the Russians how to do it right...

Hulk Hogan was an entertainer and his performances were not for competitive sport.  Yes, I know that people bad mouth WWF (or whatever they go by now) as being fake.  If you look at it as how they get the crowd into the action and the great choreography, it is amazing.

Put down your sanctimonious, hypocritical wagging finger, America - your own Olympic team's full of drug cheats just like Russia's

bulletheadbilly

That's what I said you English Warmonging Woman....look at the posts, ..I don't think there is a country in the world including Zaire , that needs to take enhancements to beat England at sports. Heck the USA could take sleeping pills and still out run England. ..........hahaaaha

It was kept quiet but in the Tour de France, I think it was 1996 or 1998 everyone tested positive. One person dobbed in the next until they were all guilty. However it was covered up that year otherwise there would be no tour de france.

All top athletes use drugs and have been for decades( they have to to get there), it is a total farce our there.

A lot of muscle building drugs etc leave no tell tale signs when people bulk up then spend a few months not competing so the drugs are completely out of their systems before starting the season. Yet it is still a drug.

I doubt "double" blooding has been tested for either, where blood is taken out of the "patient" and put back in a few weeks later before an event, meaning they have more blood and can process oxygen much better.

I give you extra points for color and large bold letters.  To my knowledge, the U.S. has never had a state-sponsored drug cheating program, in which dirty samples were for pre-tested clean ones, like the scandal in Sochi, just two years ago.

And if you followed the story, the cheating was sanctioned by the Russian government, because winning performances in international athletic events provided valuable propaganda.

It is true, the several American athetes have been caught, in recent years, doping with steroids, EPO, growth hormone, and other performance enhancing drugs.  Take the case of Marions Jones and the BALCO P.E.D. ring - she ended up going to prison!  They were punished and banned.

But, the US government did not coordinate and approve of the practice, as did the Russian and Soviet governments.

Big difference.

To be honest, thats a bunch of Bull Malarcky your talking  also Jamie. I am sure the Enhancements used in The USA are near or more than those in Russia, because the moneys still semi flowing here. You should look more to the Russian People when evaluating, and not as Much Poloticial regimes. I remember when the Top USA Doctors were giving enhancements to the Professional Football Players...you can say the here and now, but which country is peddling the most enhancements ?
