In regards to Tom's question "how". Our imagination "lives" within the neuro pathways (hope I said that right) so I think it is safe that the "conciousness" without matter could only be a misunderstanding on our part.
Re. the thought of 'consciousness-without-matter' - To some unquantifiable degree - 'Misunderstandings' are based in 'time'.. And, what era, is one referring to!?
Ie. - Some person-of-note, {'Einstein'?}, {paraphrasing}, "Yesterday's 'magic', is today's accepted technology. - Think of someone, explaining the concept, of a {then future}, 'computer tablet' let's say, to "Christopher Columbus"!
I have No doubt, that 'Columbus' at 'best'.. would've regarded the hypothetical 'stranger'.. claiming to be, from the future, as delusional.
In any event - We All probably, should be cautious, in putting constraints, on what is technologically possible, dozens-to-hundreds, {much less, 'thousands'}, of years, into the future! o:
Ps. I forgot to mention, {invisible}, 'demonic' attacks, and 'guardian angels'/spirit guides, that, we don't normally think of, as 'matter' based.. If, undisputably 'sentient.' ..{yeah, I'm a little weird, I know! ..lol}

Hmm. I agree with chess King I think. I like angels though and I see perfection in people.
Maybe nature can be perfect. I'm not entirely sure.
