So what does a mod actually do then #62
Thanks Mods (appreciation thread) 🙏

Edit content, mute accounts, and escalate ones that need banned to staff (after muting). Also most mods answer questions.
Those are primary examples

Ahhhh good to know. Thanks Martin 🍻😁👍🏽

Wait, so in order to get your account banned on these forums, a moderator would have to let a staff member know to ban you, or at least check the content of your posts? You guys can only mute people?

There are requirements to be a mod. If you meet those requirements you could apply.
The size of the site and number of content locations means that things will still get missed for a time, regardless of the number of mods.

Getting reported will get staff involvement as well. Moderators escalate to staff after muting.

The entire moderation team are the children of Frank Zappa, because there's a moderator who's name is Wind, and there's a moderator who's name is Hair!
I was drowning the other day and Deep Ocean Mod refused to throw me a life raft.
I'll try and catch a ride from The Hawk moderator next week. I think there's a moderator named Bigfoot too.....I don't want to run into him.

**Here's a key question**---does the thread content of Reported users actually get examined before someone gets banned?? I've been hearing about multiple people getting banned solely due to mass-reporting by certain trolls (presumably using many alt-accounts)... OH, YEAH---everybody's favorite BABY is back; recent OTF thread begging Basix to chat with him...check it out...

When users report a comment it will be reviewed by a moderator or staff member. There is no guarantee non-reported content is seen. Mentioning a name in a thread does not notify anyone. We may read other comments in the thread to get additional context before taking action.
Users will not be muted or banned unless there is a confirmed violation of the community policy. 1 or 100 people reporting a violation has no bearing on mutes or bans. We might respond faster to something with multiple reports.
You may also see auto-mod. This is a bot that may automatically block a comment or temporarily mute a user. I can’t share details of how this works (suffice to say there are some false-positives and false-negatives with any type of content filtering technology).
