If I were stranded on a desert island with the music of only one band it would be The Beatles. No need to think twice.

But I listen to everything from classical to metal depending on my mood. I'm a big fan of many, many of the bands mentioned on this thread.

If I had to pick a favorite genre or era I think the British invasion bands are my favorites.

Just yesterday, I walked into a gas station, and asked for a pack of smokes. So the kid asked to see my ID. When I gave it to him, he saw my birthday was October 9th, so he said "Hey! We are birthday twins!"

So I asked him if he knew that was John Lennon's birthday as well? He said he never ever heard that!

Yes sometimes you need to hear some of the oldies. Earlier I heard " The Lion Sleeps Tonight " as done by The Tokens, very nice. Also I listened to Del Shannon do " Runaway " great stuff. How many of us remember what Bob Seger said about the old songs ?

"Lion Sleeps Tonight" was adapted from this 1939 Zulu song:

by way of this more accessible 1952 version:

I thought this to be an unusual and especially wonderful rendition of Rado's and Ragni's Hair by the Cowsills (all grown up).

I never listened much to the Cowsill's, but I'm finding out they were one good cover band.

Remember, breaking out into "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" is only a whim away. (...a whim away, a wimoweh)

Sorry, I've only just finished my first coffee of the morning. I can type but not think properly yet.

I was watching one of those "reaction" videos the other night.

Gal there said something that made me laugh.

Watching Uriah Heap for the first time, she said "If Led Zeppelin and Blind Melon had had a love child, it would be Uriah Heap!"

It has to be Captain and Tennille - Anyone who could manufacture a hit out of a song like Muskrat Love has to be the greatest...
