What does everyone's Username mean?

  • #1

Chess.com, please give a quick explanation of what your username means and why you picked it.  The curiosity is too much for me to bear.

I'll start.  Ahphoey means like it sounds : ahhhh phoooey!  Fiddlesticks!  Gosh darn it, etc etc.  It's basically an expression that you use when you throw up your hands of life and kick over a chair in angst.

I had no idea that was a type of food.  I thought it meant "Pulp Fiction" in Spanish - shows what I know.

No need to be wearing suits in this place - definitely not a black tie affair in the Off Topic section.  More like sandals and Bermuda shorts.

A Galician dish. Actually that expression is a mix of two languages, Galician and Castilian Spanish, but it is the most common form, I don't know why. Polbo à feira (Galician) = pulpo a la gallega (Castilian Spanish) = octopus Galician style.

Pulp fiction translates as "novela barata" or "folletín".

Oh!  Your first name is Fuzzy.  Like Fuzzy Wuzzy - the infamous bear who had no hair - so Fuzzy Wuzzy wasn't fuzzy.....was he?

A bit of a joke among freinds of mine in real life.

    And James is my name.

And ViscountVon is just a cool preface to anything.

But without the S, of course.

Fennifer is just one of my nicknames.

You don't?  You, like myself, let Chess.com pick the Username for you.....Your first name is Stellan and wasn't Paul Stanley from KISS the Star Child?  Maybe you were going in the 70's metal band direction?

  • #17
    We could call him stellanstarthug.

I actually didn't know it was a British phrase of endearment.  Like "she's so sweet - bless her little cottonsocks!"

I'm so stupid - I thought you were going in the direction of actual cotton socks on your feet.

  • #19
    Most socks are cotton.

So Pulp Fiction isn't even close to being the translation in Spanish.  How different is Spanish in Spain as opposed to Spanish in Mexico?  Does Spanish spoken in Mexico sound weird to you?
