what is the point of daily games?

Hm......I think daily games are made not a day for a move, but because of time. Like, for example, if you're playing a bullet game you have to think fast. Not much people could be good at this. (Your question is, "Why not blitz or Rapid") Some people think too slowly, maybe it's just that they are new to chess. A daily game can help! This allows players to think better, not go to fast, and not go to mistakes. You can think for days. Well, it's only my Point of View.

Hi @AnxiousPetrosianFan, I think you're asking a very valid question. I sometimes ask myself the same question, although (or because?) I do play quite a lot of daily games. Some of these games indeed feel a little bit as you describe it, unfortunately. Yes, sometimes you end up having games that last for even longer than 2 months. However, I also agree with @Anyka_Davayka: in daily games, you do have the opportunity to think about positions more deeply than in Blitz or Rapid, and it can be really instructive.
Furthermore, you are allowed to use books or databases (but not engines), but once you reach the middle game, you are on your own anyway. And sometimes you may have really interesting games from crazy positions that you may not easily reach in blitz.
For me, the daily games give me time to play a game that I wouldn't have time for otherwise because of work and life. I can make my move then go to work and check the game after work or later if needed.

Thanks you 3, those reasons do make sense, I can remember times of my life when I might've used them for that purpose, to have games on the go when you can't commit to sit down and play a few rapid games.
I seem to have set up Daily Games by accident and I don't want to play them. Does anyone know where to switch it off? Is there an admin that can help?

Daily is the successor format to the old Chess Correspondence games from decades ago...but I don't seem to recall a "vacation" option in those back then...that "vacation" cop-out--more often than not--seems to be a way for the opponent to 'pout' or 'sulk', especially involving games where they are either at a tactical disadvantage or a positional disadvantage...
