That depends which RPG is used to measure the level. I'm guessing for D&D, it would be 20+ and for something like WoW, it would be even higher. No matter for which RPG is used though, it would be the highest attainable.
Yes, I am thinking about AD&D.
If Jesus is level 60 (prof: http://www.ruleofthedice.com/2014/04/the-only-cleric-that-doesnt-suck-is.html?m=1) then i suppose the pope would be pretty high too. After all, he does cast Bless, Command, Enthrall, Protection from Evil, Greater, Commune, Hallow, Divination and Prayer.
And I bet the old pope cast Tongues. he was suspeciously good at a lot of languages.

Pope? Maybe in his little community of small thinkers he is a big shot. There are but many other religions with more truth in them. Compared to those - a beginner. If you ask around, even amongst catholics, he is not trusted much, criticized for this and that and claims himself to be without fail. Well, think about that.

I guess i should've said highest attainable for a mortal. Gods and demi-gods tend to have higher.
Just because you are pope or religious Leader, you dont have to be at max level ;-)

The pope had to go through many stages before becoming the pope. Since there isn't anything humanly higher, i would think it would be the highest. I guess it would be possible to have someone elected pope and not be at that level if something were to happen to the current one. However, assuming there could only be one pope at a time, i think there would be many qualified to take the place. So under normal circumstances, i would think the pope would be very high. You're right though, it wouldn't necessarily be maxed.
Other religious leaders such as ones of a small community might not be maxed simply because they wouldn't have to go through such a process.

Please stay on topic and get into the story where we debate whether the pope in any way can be compared to AD&D priests and which level he thus would be at :-)

I can only agree with kaynight. He is pope in a small world of catholics, not in ours.
He collects tigers, lions , panthers, pumas and other felines beyond reason - he is a Cat-Holic...
