Chess.com, OTF is not appropriate for children

OTF was literally created for people to hang-out, make new connections, and just have fun. It's just a break from chess, really, and some threads do indeed have a positive impact on many people. If you really have something against online communication, then there really isn't a need to start a whole thread about it.

The world doesn't revolve around you, and just because you, and a select few others have experienced negative results, you can just leave OTF for the better. Again, restating my previous points, OTF was created by Chess.com staff, so people could take a break from chess and just communicate with other members of the community.

Rambling on about how OTF should be removed isn't really going to do anything, unless the purpose of this forum is to rage-bait.
My post is directed at chess.com, not at random users, and I’m definitely not 'rage-baiting'.

OTF may have been created for casual discussions, but that doesn’t mean chess.com should ignore what it has become. If it truly served its intended purpose, there wouldn’t be so many issues surrounding it.

Telling people to "just leave" doesn’t solve anything. Chess.com is responsible for the kind of space it allows, especially with minors on the platform.

Trying to brush off valid concerns as 'rage-baiting' only highlights the real problem

If you truly believe the world doesn’t revolve around one person, maybe take your own advice instead of trying to dismiss valid concerns just because they don’t align with your views.

Well argued! Lemon wins! 😂

Win what exactly?

Do you think my feedback to chess.com is some kind of competition?

Wait, if OTF is really created just to hang out and have fun, then why is everyone taking this seriously. Just because someone critiques OTF, doesn't mean it's ragebaiting, like seriously? The OP is literally having a discussion, not rage-baiting. He is just sharing his opinion, even if this doesn't align of yours.

Instead of getting constructive discussions, he gets defensive rants.

Maybe try by at least be respectful at their own viewpoints, instead trying to bully the OP.

Zen_Buh

It's a forum not Twitter what's there to win?

Chess.com, I believe it’s time to seriously reconsider the existence of the Off Topic forum. While the site is meant to promote chess and intellectual growth, OTF has become a space where children are exposed to discussions that are far from appropriate for their age.

Here’s why OTF is not suitable for kids:

Serious Mental Health Topics – Many useTrs openly discuss personal struggles, including depression and self harm, with other unqualified individuals attempting to give advice. This is not a safe environment for those in need of real help.

Toxic Interactions & Drama – OTF often fosters arguments, insults, and unproductive debates. Instead of encouraging learning and positivity, it has become a place for negativity and conflict.

Distraction from Chess – Many of the most active OTF users have low chess ratings, which suggests they spend more time engaging in unrelated discussions than actually improving at chess. This raises the question....does OTF add value to the chess.com experience?

Lack of Proper Moderation – Despite having moderators, inappropriate discussions often go unchecked, and some moderators themselves engage in questionable behaviour.

Chess.com, you need to take action before things get worse. OTF is not a safe space for children, nor does it align with the mission of this platform. Removing it or heavily restricting it would be a step in the right direction.

SERIOUS MENTAL HEALTH TOPICS: TELL THEM TO GO TO A DAMN THERAPIST. EASY!!

TOXIC INTERACTIONS & DRAMA: SHUT UP GODDAMN IT! You yap all the time too! Also since you yap so much about random bullsh!t that's probably why you have no friends. Oh and don't get all defensive we know the truth already. Literally! Like do you have a life?

By the way, im 11 and do you think I ACTUALLY CARE? HELL NO! ON THE APP STORE IT LITERALLY SAYS IT'S FOR 4 AND OVER!

DISTRACTION FROM CHESS: Let them damn it, why would you care?

LACK OF PROPER MODERATION: Then become one since you spend so much time on the forums! Also have you heard of an app called ChessKid? You can't chat during a game, you can't privately message someone and I don't even think you can add someone as a friend there!

Oh and veryverystern if you don't want to become a moderator go to chess.com's HQ and complain.

VerifiedChessYarshe

#445 I feel like you are saying that people shouldn't care about those stuff and mind their own business. I doubt you read all of his comments with full understanding here. Its like saying you need to switch schools because you file a complaint about one of the school's policy. No they need to improve.

100 bonus posting points awarded to youthfulling. He gets the clear argument. Others, well they may not be playing with a full deck. happy

Stop being a spokesperson.

Oh, wow. Being 11 and decided use bad words and big words to persuade people. All that typing just to prove you don’t care? You really get a snack break.
