I Updated My Android App

JNMillano2
Nothing has changed. Still no Puzzle Rush, no updated lessons. I just wasted 6.5 MB. Don't get me wrong, I am not being a miserable complainant. But imagine this happening to notmtwain on a bad day: y'all will probably get fired.

No, not notmtwain but the boss Erik.

The Android App ist a real desaster. It lets me think about leaving chess.com and try lichess or another alternative. It is really not acceptable for a number-one chess app to not have a working Android app. And I am not talking about new features, it would be firstly necessary to make existing features work. For instance, when analysing games, side-variants suddenly jump back to main variant, etc., etc.! Horrible!!

So yes, boss needs to be fired ;-)

They released new Android client in beta roughly a week ago. It does have Puzzle Rush but it has many, many other deficiencies also. You need to be a beta member to download it and install.

Thanks, that sounds promising at least. Hopefully they have rewritten the hole app based on most recent software development techniques (tests, tests, tests ;-)) which allows to fastly react to bug reports. If so, some deficiencies in a beta version shall be no problem at all. So let's hope the best ;-)

Puzzle Rush is currently only in the beta, not the general release app, as far as I'm aware.

@Martin_Stahl

What is your impression of the latest Android beta (v4 beta 12)? Especially the appearance as compared with iOS client.

Thanks for the momentary promotion.

Why don't you join the Beta?

I like what I have seen so far. I've tried Puzzle Rush and have played a few games. I also watched ChessTV.

I don't know what it's like compared to the iOS app because I only have an Android phone.

I think it is pretty good, though I primarily use the mobile site, so I'm not really a power user. I do play Rush on it and it works well.

I don't have a device with the newer iOS app, so I can't provide a comparison.

Beta app is ok, UI seems well designed to me. But you cannot play Puzzle Rush Battle, you cannot retry mistakes without a Diamond membership(!) and you cannot access old lessons. Only premium lessons available.

You also cannot seem to access the puzzle of the day, unless I am missing it

Puzzle Rush Battle is new to the site. They are unlikely to add new site features to the beta app, since the code changes so quickly.

No, looks like it was removed

How do I download the beta app? I see the Play Store mention it in "What's new" but where do I switch from "stable" to "beta" releases?
