Premium Arena Was Rigged!

Roger436

The Premium Arena was clearly rigged, the pairing made you play players ONLY close to your rating. This means that all they underrated 700's got to play 700's ONLY, and they just kept on winning never playing some high rated players, not only that, but all the GM's only got to play other high rated players, I withdrew the tournament with the top 10 being all u-2000. A 1500 is probably going to win the entire ARENA because they are only playing OTHER 1500's. Their going to easily take $100 which is so rigged. Not to mention that the server crashed for many other players for like the 3RD TIME. Many players withdrew and were very frustrated, hopefully, it can be rescheduled with swiss pairing and without crashes.

No one cares about that arena tho

Roger436

I think like 50% of the participants cared. Anish Giri quit the tourney.

Roger436

That's so TRUE! It's RIGGED

2Ke21-0

Too true. Honestly, chess.com's server has not been impressing me these past few months. I really don't understand why they make the arena open to untitled players only.

Could somebody send me the link to the standings?

@Chess4PK this link is not a troll. Trust Me.

checkmagnus

Indeed a 1300 won the whole thing

2Ke21-0

Arena pairings should be based on points, not rating.

An_asparagusic_acid

3rd place was an 800.

2Ke21-0

Imagine being 800 and scoring more points in a tournament than all 100ish GMs in the tournament.

Roger436

And those gm's are like 2600+ gm's

IK, the gms could beat him with 1:1000 time odds.

neveraskmeforadraw

All those GMs clearly didn"t stand a chance against chess.com's 800s, so why did they even bother participating!?

If you make it Swiss pairing, no ordinary member is going to have a chance at winning it - it'll go to titled player of some sort. By making pairings near your rating, every premium member has a chance to win it.

Remember that people's ratings will adjust according to their results, so if someone keeps winning against 700 rated players, their own rating will go up beyond that. Sandbagging before the tournament would obviously be an issue, but also much harder to hide.

Probably a bigger issue is new accounts who are on a trial premium membership - I think they should probably be excluded from the tournament. Existing basic members who upgrade to a trial premium membership are probably okay.

I guess you have a fair point but it still was crashing and you haven't answered that.

Roger436

Yeah, sorry about that - I don't have a good answer for it, unfortunately. Was it a server crash affecting all players, or only affecting some players? The former would be a capacity issue with the servers, whereas the latter would be a capacity issue with the network somewhere along the line. I'm sure they'll be looking at what caused it and putting in measures to improve it for next time - the whole Premium Arena with cash prizes is pretty new.
