I give people the benefit of the doubt. Not everyone enjoys a stable network connection. This happens to me when people are losing, but it also happens often enough when I'm losing.

It's hard to give the benefit of the doubt to people who abandon a second after losing their queen.

That's an obvious scenario. It isn't always that clear.

True. As I don't have much time for chess and play mostly bullet, I also once or twice happened to abandon the game because someone called me at a very bad moment. And it might have been in such position but those situations happened not more than 3 times for me for over 3,5k games played. But there are really many players who abandon right after they lose a queen or suddenly turn out to be in a much worse position. Happens to me every third or fourth game which is going my way.

So when they abandon are they letting you hang for the rest of your time or do you get the abandoned notification right away when they quit the app?

It's really annoying. I personally dislike winning except by what happens on the board. I dislike winning on time, and I drastically, drastically dislike winning because the other person abandoned the game or disappeared.

It poisons the next game for me, because I feel I won the previous game "unfairly", so I feel obliged to lose the next game to compensate, which isn't really fair on me, or on my next opponent.

What I'm crying out for, and have been crying out for for ages (but no one is listening) is to have the option for the remaining player to declare the abandoned game a draw. Why not? It's not that hard to implement, and it would make it nicer for people like me, and fairer in the situation where your opponent disconnects perhaps through no fault of their own, when they were actually winning.

I get at least one example of this every 100 games or so. The majority are doing it rather than quoting in a lost position. That said I don't know how you could put in place a blanket policy when a lot clearly have weak connections

Be patient and no resing

This is getting worse and worse, needs more impact on penalty! 

At the very least tabbing out for ten seconds when the opponent abandons shouldn't loose you the game. I very often need to change my music part way through a game and sometime it's claimed I've abandoned. But I play people who do abandon games and the clock counts all the way down, for two minutes in a 3 minute a side game.

Almost every game where I manage to catch the opponents queen gets abandoned, this needs some improvements from chess.com. And why not just resign or play? I report every player that abandons games but I'm not sure if it's really useful at all.
