Don't think manufacturers are allowed to ship wireless routers with open WiFi.

It might be more of a matter of -don't want to- than -not allowed-. What router manufacturer is going to have someone complain they thought a password was not necessary since the router was shipped without one?

BOOOO!!!

I've had Apple computers and liked them except for this one thing. In fact, if it wre not for this, I would probably be using an Apple now.

A lot of what has been brought up is why i cancelled my diamond membership.  Yea, its on $99 a year, but i got tired of a player rated 100 kicking my butt.  I reported him for cheating, and his account is still open.  I got tired of the India spamming (Amazed, nothing has been done).  And just tired of throwing money at something i didnt think was worth it.

I can get free chess videos online, I can get a much better tactics trainer online elsewhere free.  The analysis engines are a joke, and are not anywhere near the rating they say they are at.  Chess.com has turned into yahoo chess, full of cheats, online e-thugs, and generally a group of angry people that have no idea how to act.

But as someone stated...capitalism...money talks.

this makes me mad... and it's because you are 1/2 right and 1/2 wrong.

i'm not sure about the 100 rated player kicking your butt, but we DO take cheating very seriously.

the spammer issue was recently fixed. it took too long because we didn't want to be accidentally closing GOOD posts, and it was trickier than expected.

you can get free videos online. are they as good? you judge. we try to find the best authors and we pay them well for their work.

you can get free tactics online. but we try to have good ones, and we also use this to make money so we can operate.

the analysis engine needs a LOT of work. agreed.

the people... it's a mix. like anywhere. you can find good and bad and choose what to focus on.

chess.com needs a LOT of work. it's old. it's in need of repair. lots of features need improvements. but it's not that way because we are neglecting it and riding some money train and rolling around in piles of dollar bills. it's because we have been investing every single dollar we have made in the last 2 years into our complete rewrite - our foundation for the future of chess. and it's coming soon - hopefully before end of year. and from there we will be able to build build build more and more amazing stuff.

i want to make EVERYONE happy, to have chess.com be the BEST in every area. it hurts me that we are not there, but we are trying... you just can't quite see it yet! i'm sorry.....

I have been happy as Hell here for the last six years with a Diamond Membership. Chess.com is where I live at least six hours a day.

Erik, I don't know how serious you are when it comes to fighting cheating, but there are at least some inconsistencies in the process : for example, there's a guy who has been reported for maybe 1,5 years through normal channels and...nothing. Then I report him to monitor and the account is closed in two days ?! It looks like the cheating detection team needs some training or new tools, I don't know.

I used to be Diamond too, and I cancelled because of this serious cheating issue. I'm still not convinced it's fixed, though I understand policing 10M members, many of them being potential cheats, is not easy.

I've been here since last November and am really glad I found Chess.com.

I hear a lot of petty complaints about the site, but I think that is normal. Despite your efforts Erik, you can't please all the people. So you should just focus on those who appreciate the effort.

As for the cheating, I am still not sure how big of an issue it really is. There are so many sore losers who would rather blame cheating than their own skill level.

I remember when you had the list of caught cheaters, it seemed you guys were banning a lot of cheaters. So it is difficult to accept when people say you don't take cheating seriously. Of course someone can find a case or 2 where it seems someone got by the cheat radar, but that is to be expected when you are dealing with thousands of players per day.

Hey.Why did this thread get moved to off-topic? It is a legitimate topic about a feature that some might find valuable.

I don't know why so many people complain about this site.  Personally, I think it is great.  As far as cheating goes, who really cares?  If someone is cheating and still has a 1200 rating, that means they are just bad at cheating.  it is like one of the Miami Hurricanes players stated, "I don't mind the cheating.  I just don't like it that we didn't win." (okay, I a paraphrased it).

Maybe because there was a post saying folks should not pay for a premium account here, but better to pay another site - if so, could just have censored that post.

agreed with this statment.

It's hard to say. Topic being moved to off-topic pretty much seems to be at the whim of the moderator in charge.

This pretty much sums it up in one sentence.
