The India's map in the world map that is being displayed in this site on pro chess league guide is illegal in INDIA. All sites have been informed about this I guess. This site can be sued. Change it as soon as possible.

What map?

Pulpofeira

Fischer couldn't get back to the States, and Erik should better abstain from visiting India. Sad.

JackReacher1409

Does it have something to do with territorial disputes with China?

China calls it disputed . but India doesn't and it is with pak also.

I can't tell if this is just some lighthearted trolling or the beginning of an international incident.

No I don't want to escalate the issues same should be with social sites.

There used to be a map on v2 for members, clubs and coaches, but I'm not sure it is still around. If what you saw was on the home page, it was probably something posted for an article... maybe about the Pro Chess league.

As to being sued, I'm not a lawyer but I don't see how a US-based site would be held liable for something like that. But who knows.

As this site is not forcing Indian citizens to view the map, how are they liable?

The OP is a nut.

Who cares?

Martin_Stahl

Yeah, that's what I figured after thinking about it. It probably is a stock image edited for color and marked up to list the sites of teams.

Still don't think there would be jurisdictional standing for the site to be sued over a stock image that has no geo-political statement inherent in its use.

JackReacher1409

See! I don't have firm belief on keeping boundaries and all but respecting boundaries can bring peace.

Are you indirectly saying ," Indians with this problem may leave the site or this site may be blocked in India and who cares." well if so you are right as long as you dont run this site.

ArgoNavis

Are you talking about this article?

If so, this is the map...

Please tell me you aren't talking about his map...I have seen to much ridiculousness this week, I don't think I can cope with more.

Well the map also doesn't show the Armenian contested territory with Azerbaijan; the IS, Turkey or Kurdish controlled regions of Syria; or Antartica at all.  So yeah no map can satisfy everybody.

Also in regard to the the law, I believe that it only places restrictions on Indian government and domestic documents from depicting disputed territory as Chinese.  It can also be argued that continuing to dispute territory, in a way, disrupts peace instead of bringing it.

I know map is not scaled and it is incorrect and it's purpose was just to show the location but my problem is just this when you repeat the same thing again and again and start showing same map to everyone , everyone would start believing that those disputed (although for India it is confirmed not claimed or anything else) areas are not disputed anymore. Do not talk about antarctica please . For the rest of cases you mentioned may be mere claim but here the situation is different..  And I am not seeing this first time I have seen many places even in google map they did this mistake THAT IS WHY INDIA HAD TO MAKE THIS LAW... and if one do not raise such issues then everyone will use the same wrong maps for editing and oneday when the situation will go out of control then the peace will disrupt.

also regard to the law . your belief is wrong .. google map had to change the map bcause of this law you can search for this.. I know google map is big thing and this ad is not that much important still I want to make sure these type of maps should not be used for editing purposes anymore

But what if there is also a law in China/Pakistan that bans versions of the map that show the territory in question as part of India? Would chess.com then have to create multiple versions of the map? It would probably even have to create multiple versions of the site, one accessible in India, another in China, etc, to ensure that the correct map is displayed in each country.
