I've been thinking about leaving this dump too. This place is overrun with idiots.
My resignation.
Anna, you'll be sorely missed. I really appreciated what you did for us. I know that our laissez-faire strategy means that moderators have to be REALLY thick skinned. I hope you don't give up on tournament chess, though!
Frankly and honestly- the "laissez-faire" strategy SUCKS.
I've had my pic taken against littered with obscenity and recycled against a dozen accounts. yes staff took action. but the perpetrators were unduly encouraged by being allowed to write a dozen edgy threads. What you allow- defines good and evil around here. it is almost an insult to us, the few that remain, that have an intent to share insight- that you allow abusive or nearly abusive threads in any form to remain unlocked with no consequences towards the negativity that was permitted by the Laissez faire strategy.
I plead with shaun/eric to reverse this situation. I also note you have lost two wonderful mods in a not so long period of time, because of it.
^Darn straight we took action! Can you give me some examples of edgy in a PM? laissez-faire was in reference to the chat in our chess.com/tv, where we want a more sportslike atmosphere, but if someone is harassing you and then doing edgy, we're pretty much no okay with it!
I'm am very sorry that happened to you, Anna. I will miss you here. Thanks for all the things you taught me. :-(
yeah its more of a pause or a break- I know I'll be back
but I'm upset about the ways things have gone and I need a break from some of you guys
tl;dr
"bye"
You look like a nice lady Anna maybe you should reconsider..There will always be trolls...it goes with the game..never mind them ...you will be missed...
It's very hard to be a moderator! It can be a thankless position, and a tricky one. And as a community, we are also in a tricky position. There are many many people who feel we are over-moderating, and a ton of people who feel we are under-moderating. If we move more toward one way, the people on the other side get really angry. And if we move more the other way.... well, you get the picture. So, we are basically stuck in the middle and very few people are happy.
Anna, thanks for always doing your best. I don't know the details of your decision, but I understand that sometimes it gets too hard, or people disagree with decisions. I respect that.
Cheers and good luck in all you do. You are always welcome here!
It's not a matter of "not enough or too much moderation." Your forum rules are absurd. More or less moderation isn't going to change that.
Sorry to see you go Anna. And I have to tell you and others that as a moderator I agree 100% with your decision on the latest incident. I would expect staff to stand by that and support you and make the relevant amendments in the moderation guideline, rather than hinting at not having enough "thick skin".
I'm pretty sure they would have great difficulty in *hiring* someone who would do what you do as a volunteer with the same level of care and attention. Their loss.
I deeply regret to announce that I am resigning my position as a chess.com moderator, and will no longer play on the site.
I cannot in good conscience allow abusive spam directed personally at another member to occur on my watch, and unfortunately my position on this is incompatible with chess.com moderation guidelines.
